Anyone read about the recent Mickydees violent beat down?

If you haven't read the news about the McDonald's beating, check it out one drudgereport.com. I watched the video a few hours ago, and I'm still horrified. Being a nurse, my entire goal is to avoid bodily harm.... and alas things like this make me want to vomit (more so than blood and poo).

They are calling it a race crime... it was also implied that she was a 'he' trying to use the female bathroom.

Opinions?

In a Baltimore McDonalds, three black female teens beat the snot out of a white teen. The video went viral on youtube, and is terrible. Just wondering everyone's thoughts on the matter.

    Excerpt:

"The video shows two women — one of them a 14-year-old girl — repeatedly kicking and punching the 22-year-old victim in the head, as an employee of the Rosedale restaurant and a patron try to intervene. Others can be heard laughing, and men are seen standing idly by.

Toward the end of the video, one of the suspects lands a punishing blow to the victim's head, and she appears to have a seizure. A man's voice tells the women to run because police are coming."

In all honesty...I probably would have gotten myself in a heap load of trouble if I had seen this happen. It would have included assault of a minor and aggrivated assault to that POS older girl. Every person who worked there that day should be fired and both of those girls need to be charged because that is completely unacceptable 'transgender' victim or not, that has no bearing.

this is terrible! This video makes me absolutely sick! All of those people should be ashamed of themselves. Every one of them should be charged. I can't believe someone just sat there and videotaped it instead of helping. Ridiculous!

What the shiit? How much of a fucked up human do you have to sit there and watch that happen. What a bunch of shiit people. I'm disgusted. I hope those two cunts rot in jail. And I hope those McD's employees get in a shiit load of trouble too.

I can't even watch it because it will just make me anxious and sad.

I made the mistake of watching another horrifying McDonald's related video earlier in the week and I wanted to cry. There was apparently a huge line outside of a McDonald's in Cleveland (I think) because they were hiring people. A fight broke out, actually several fights and a guy was just filming it. Ok, that's bad enough. But then someone in a car in front of the McDonald's drives forward and stops because there are other cars there, then out of nowhere the driver throws the car in reverse, slams on the gas and then hits and literally RUNS OVER 2 people!

A bunch of people ran over to those that were hit. Some of them to help and others of course, whipped out their fucking cell phones to start videotaping. Seriously? It's so disgusting to me that people do things like this. I don't understand it and I NEVER will.

ETA: It ENRAGES me that people see a violent tragedy and their first thought is having a viral video on youtube. Gross.

Every single person at that McDonald's who was working and didn't attempt to help or at least call 911 should be fired immediately.

Was the guy in the blue shirt the manager?  He appears to be running around useless.  At the very least, he should have told his employee to stop filming.  On the other hand, how clearer can the evidence be for a court case?

Fire them all, from the manager down.

Emotionally, I want to say that they should have charges brought on them too Blue, but at the same time no one is obligated put themselves in harm's way to help another person. It's nice when it happens, but to charge someone with a crime would be extreme to me.

I think in this case the manager did call 911. But I've been reading about this case and some people are saying that McDonald's has a policy where they don't want their employees getting physically involved in things like this or they will be terminated but I don't know the details of that.

They didnt have to physically intervene.  Call the cops, break out the fire extinguisher, hose them, throw a strawberry milkshake in their hair.  Something.  By taping it and encouraging it and helping them flee, they have become accessories in my eyes.

True. And I agree about the encouraging part. But in a way it's good that it was taped because it will help prosecute and make those a-holes pay for what they did (hopefully). I don't know that security camera footage (if there was any) would have been clear enough or as helpful as this video will be. Though, it blows that it's out there on the internet for everyone to see. Hopefully some good can come of it.

The cops were called, but it's just sickening that this had to happen at all. I didn't watch the video because I'm pretty sure I'll vomit.

If the employees are not allowed to intervene, then McDonalds should have someone on staff at all times has access (and training) to mace.

It reminds me of all the fights that happen at Chuck E Cheese.  Its insane.

It really is crazy. I guess my whole problem with charging them is that, if I was out someplace - whether a restaurant or bar or near and alleyway and I saw someone being beaten I don't know that I'd intervene. I'd call the cops for sure, but I don't know whether the person has a knife, gun or can beat the shiit out of me with their bare hands. I will do everything I can to help people, but I don't know that I'm brave enough to step in. Obviously, the encouraging part is really shitty. But where do you draw the line with something like that, you know?

I would find it unfair if I witnessed a crime/assault and didn't do anything other than call the cops, and then was charged as an accessory. I know what you were saying was slightly different because they could have done something other than jump right in front of the girls, but I just feel like that would be a slippery slope in a way.

But I do think the employees should be terminated. And you're right, if things like this are happening there should be some security personnel hired. It's sad that there should be security at a fast food restaurant. But if this trend continues, it's definitely worth it. Of course, a multi-million dollar corporation might think differently.

I agree with you.  My reaction to the whole thing is completely hypothetical.  I know it doesnt make sense for it to be a crime, but in my head it seems like the fair thing.  If that makes any sense.

Plus, it shouldnt be that hard to stop a 14 year old.  But again, that is what I would personally have done, and find that my reaction to situations are never the normal reactions.  I realize that not everyone has that same reaction, or tendency to always do the right thing regardless of the outcome. Fight or flight and all that.  I couldnt sit there and watch this happen just because I was afraid.  I wouldnt be able to sleep at night.

It makes sense. I mean, just the anger I feel about this happening to this person makes me want to have people thrown in jail so I understand that.

I would step in to certain situations if I felt like I could handle it. But against 2 girls, whether they're 14 or 41, I just don't know that I wouldn't get my ass beat too.  But you're right, sometimes in that situation you just sort of see red and go for it, or you don't. If it was someone I knew and cared about it would be a whole different story. I would go off no question.

    You're brave, Blue.  : )

    I... agree with Blue? Kinda.

There are a few things that are going to be factors in deciding whether or not the employees should be charged. One is whether or not McDonald's has a policy about not physically interfering in something like that. Another is whether or not Maryland has one of those Good Samaritan laws, and whether they did enough to step in. And another is whether or not the evidence on the tape is enough to charge them as accessories - when I watched it, I heard laughter, encouragement to the girls, and warnings that the cops were coming from the employees. The one who shot the video also posted some very unwise stuff on his Facebook suggesting he supports the girls. You better believe a prosecutor is going to be looking at that very carefully.

Another thing that really sucks about this is that the Maryland legislature recently voted down a bill that would have allowed transgendered people equal access to the bathroom of their choice, and I've seen some speculation about whether or not that would be enough for a defense attorney to have the whole thing thrown out. I hope it isn't.
