NWR: Vacation

My brother has been shouldering a lot of the burden for my parents' care recently and he really needs a break.  I am going to take him on a little vacation--5 or so days--towards the middle to end of July.  My uncle and Bill can help take care of my dad so I just need suggestions.  He's not really a Mexico kind of guy and a friend of mine is going to the Dominican Republic but he's already kind of poopooed that idea.  I was thinking LA and Bill was thinking Vegas; while I would love to go to Vegas we don't have enough money to also foot the bill for gambling.  Any other suggestions to take someone for a semi-inexpensive restful vacation?

Maybe a nice lake like Tahoe? How about San Francisco or San Diego?

What does he like to do for fun?  Boston is really nice this time of year - perfect for a history buff.

Thanks, ladies.  Sometimes he is a history buff but I don't know that he'll want to do a bunch of history stuff on his first vacation in a while.  Keep 'em coming if you have any more suggestions.

I second San Fran.

Also, not that a Florida covered in oil is in any way a desirable option....but hotel/rental car rates there are rock bottom right now.  You could maybe do Disney or something fun like that really inexpensively.

I have been dying to get away to the mountains - New Mexico or Colorado. Get a cabin, relax, see some beautiful scenery and get a break from the heat. Sounds wonderful to me, but we can't afford it, so if you do that, I'll do it vicariously through you.
