XP: Harry Potter Butterbeer Recipe

I posted this on E because I know there are HP fans over there.  Just want to make sure the HP fans over here get their fix too!Wink

I found this Butterbeer Recipe online on a Flordia news website.  It purports to be a good recipe to make the Butterbeer they sell at WWoHP.  I made it tonight, and it's actually pretty good!  It tastes close to the WWoHP one.  The one at WWoHP is sweeter while this one is more butterscotchy.  It's easy to make although I burned the brown sugar mixture a little.

Here's the recipe (I used IBC Cream Soda):

Servings: 4

•1 cup light or dark brown sugar
•2 tablespoons water
•6 tablespoon butter
•1/2 teaspoon salt
•1/2 teaspoon cider vinegar
•3/4 cup heavy cream, divided
•1/2 teaspoon rum extract
•Four 12-ounce bottles cream soda

In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the brown sugar and water. Bring to a gentle boil and cook, stirring often, until the mixture reads 240 F on a candy thermometer. Stir in the butter, salt, vinegar and 1/4 cup heavy cream. Set aside to cool to room temperature. Once the mixture has cooled, stir in the rum extract.

In a medium bowl, combine 2 tablespoons of the brown sugar mixture and the remaining 1/2 cup of heavy cream. Use an electric mixer to beat until just thickened, but not completely whipped, about 2 to 3 minutes.

To serve, divide the brown sugar mixture between 4 tall glasses (about 1/4 cup for each glass). Add 1/4 cup of cream soda to each glass, then stir to combine. Fill each glass nearly to the top with additional cream soda, then spoon the whipped topping over each.

[QUOTE]Yay! I'm totally going to make it. I'm going to the wonderful Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Universal in February. SO excited to try their butterbeer. PLUS I just got a Harry Potter cook book for my birthday so I can also make treacle tarts and rock cake and Kreachers french onion soup. Wahoo :-)

You are going to love it!!  I just went two weeks ago.  WWoHP was the most crowded part of the park.  We got there right when the park opened and went straight for the Forbidden Journey ride since I read that one gets packed, and you can't use the Express Pass for it.  It was great.

We rode Flight of the Hippogriff (it was fine) and the Dragon coasters (great), but we didn't do Ollivander's shop because the line was so long.  We did both Islands of Adventure and Universals Studios in one day so we just hit the ones we really wanted to do.  We bought the Express Pass and were able to ride all of the rides we wanted to in both parks in one day (9A-6P).  We didn't get to re-ride any rides though.  We were two adults so I don't know if you'd be able to do both parks with kids.

Here's a message board with tips about how to make the most of WWoHP, Universal and Disney.  Have fun!
