Snarky Brides

Scars anyone?

I recently had shoulder surgery and even though my scars are tiny I am worried about the scars and my strapless wedding dress next summer.  Can anyone recommend a good scar treatment cream?

Re: Scars anyone?

  • use Vitamin E oil every day or even twice a day. It really helped the scars on my stomach from when I had my gallbladder removed.
  • I've heard good things about this stuff:

  • Dito the vitamin e oil.  You can get it in the herbal supplement section of most stores.
  • I thought this was going to be a scar-telling competition. I am now disappointed. Not that I have any good stories, but I was fully planning on living vacariously through others.
  • My dad had a pretty bad accident about a year ago now, where he fell face first onto some frozen mud.  He had some pretty bad scars from it, but he used Mederma and today, you can't even tell.

Sorry to let you down!  I don't really have any cool scars, just surgery ones.
  • I ditto the Vitamin E suggestion.  I used it on my ankle after my operation it it worked pretty well.  It's also usually less expensive than any of the scar fading treatments you see advertised.

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

Haha, nice!  Thanks though. :)  He looked pretty rough from it... he needed stitches and both of his eyes were black and blue.  He looked like he'd gotten into a bar fight.  My grandpa hadn't passed yet and a couple days after my dad's incident, my grandpa "escaped" from the house and went on a walk and slipped on some ice, so HE had a couple stitches in his forehead.  We were giving both of them a hard time on Thanksgiving because they both looked so banged up :) And we were telling my uncle "Hey, you need to go get the shiit kicked out of you so you can match."

But seriously - the Mederma worked.

  • Ditto the bio oil. I used it on a few scars that I had gotten over the years and they've faded drastically. I really helped to even my skin out- especially in the winter when it gets dry. It made a huge difference.

    That's a good Thanksgiving story.

I'll have to look into the mederma or vitamin E oil too. I have a pretty bad surgical scar on my ankle. It's gotten much better but I still think it's yucky.
  • Make sure you use sunscreen on it so you don't get hyperpigmentation.

That was my problem with my femur surgery scar.  I used vitamin E with that and it seemed to work but I also hit the tanning bed a little too soon and didn't protect it the way I should have.  It's been about 5 years so it doesn't look as bad anymore but I definitely don't want the scar right on the front of my shoulder to darken.
