Incase you're wondering what happened to that letter you mailed...

http://news.yahoo.com/video/sacramentocbs13-15751210/letter-from-1930s-finally-delivered-20995161

I'm kinda' surprised the post office let this one slip by considering they're raising the price of postage AGAIN... well, I guess they should.  I mean their service is SUPERB, right?

EDIT:  I fixed the link...sorry :)

  • OMG!  sorry ladies!!!

Petrastone got it right.  A letter was lost in the mail for 73 years!?!  It was from a nun to a girl studying to be a nun.  PS-the girl was a convent drop-out, got married and had a family (died a yr ago).  But the lady who received the letter said "I wonder if the girls life would have changed, had she received the letter?"

    DAMN post office!!!

I'm pissed too, because 3 STD's were returned to me, and althought 2 were for legit reasons, one was returned and it said 'no such street', so I sent it AGAIN, SAME ADDRESS   ($1.06 a pop!!!) and MIRACULOUSLY it got there!  Ggrrr

Dogs hate mailmen for good reason!  jk :)

  • The Postal Service these days has a lot of issues. A friend who got married in May considered doing her RSVP's by e-mail/phone only but figured her older relatives and more traditional types in general might be offended-which I agreed with.

My bank said they will no longer do paper statements effective January 2013. If you want one, you will have to come in a branch bank and ask for a printout. Cost and problems with mail delivery were the reasons they gave.

Pollack me had to read this TWICE before I got it, and then I got the visual, and cracked up!!!

  • I got a wedding invitation returned on Monday. I sent them out the middle of May. It was to one of H's coworkers, and I feel awful that they would think they weren't invited. I told him to bring the invitation in as proof.
    image
  • My mom sent back her RSVP card the day she got the invite and it was returned to her saying the person the card was addressed to (DH and I), didn't live at the address on the cards.

I had lived there for 2 years, but when they saw DH's name on the address, they freaked out and didn't know what to do with the card, so they sent it back to her, along with about 20 other people.  Amazingly about half of the cards made it to us, and there were about 10 that never showed up despite people telling us they were sent (and I believe them).

The really annoying part is that I got mail addressed to random people that never even lived at my apartment before me, so it pissed me off that I still got their crap, but that they wouldn't send me my RSVP cards that had MY name on them, in addition to DH's name.

  • @zippityb...since it was time to mail shower invites, I took booth, put them in a larger envelope + mailed them back out.  I wanted people to see that I attempted to mail it, but it was returned.  That's so awful, that the co-worker thinks they're not invited.  And you were probably wondering why they didn't RSVP!!!

@steph...AMAZING.  They rejected it because of DH's name being on it!!!  ridiculous.

  • The worst part is that the wedding is over.

  • now, I'm begining to second guess myself ::DAMN POST OFFICE):: because when we sent out invites to the e-party, we had a few people not even respond.

And because I was soo up on my high horse...I was like, screw THEM!!!  if they couldn't even RESPOND with a yes/no whether or not they were coming, then I'm not wasting the time (or space on the gueslist) to invite them to the wedding.  (Please know...none of these few couples are close to me, FI, or our families, so that makes me feel a lil better)

    it's just shitty

<div>Oh! Always follow unfulfilled RSVP's with a phone call! We found out that many of our STD's didn't arrive and had one come back as unknown address. Umm... we live in a town of 27,000. Our town is less that 16 square miles. That address was a big house on the main drag! wtf?</div><div>
</div><div>So, we'll be calling everyone who doesn't send in an RSVP card, and in a couple of weeks, his mom is going to quietly find out if all his relatives received theirs. My side, not so much, because it's only my mom and dad, and my brother. I'll hear it if they don't get theirs. Holy Odin! I've got to get cracking on my invites! They are due to be mailed on Friday, and I'm still assembling!</div>

  • One of our best friend's never received their wedding invitation. She had changed her phone number (and didn't have email) but we didn't know that so we couldn't figure out why she wasn't sending back her rsvp or returning any of her phone calls. We went back to our old area one day to visit his family and saw her at the store. She never got it.

We just received our notice from the IRS that they had no VA records for Scott for 2007 taxes. We had until Aug 9th to have all the paperwork completed and returned, we received the notice Monday I think? So July 19th. The letter inside was marked July 1st. Good job guys, good job.
  • I think the USPS does this so that people will spend more money on certified mail.

We never followed up with the one coworker because he had already told us that his wife's sibling was getting married that day in another city. That's why we weren't worried when they didn't RSVP. I just don't want him to think we snubbed them.

@petrastone:  I have def changed my thought process on f/u on ALL RSVP's

@zippity: phew!!! The visual I got was someone sitting there waiting on the invite + THAT would suck.  Never a good feeling thinking you were 'snubbed'.  Not sure about the certifies mail thing, but I like the conspiracy theory! :)
