Snarky Brides

Father/daughter dance... I'm getting gun shy.

I cannot wait to dance with my dad at our wedding!  We LOVE dancing.

Anyway, I always wanted to rock out with my dad - originally I'd been planning on having us dance to Guns n' Roses "Sweet Child o' Mine" but now, I'm getting kinda nervous - maybe we'd rather dance to a slower song.  Ugh.  I dunno.

I grew up listening to a LOT of Bob Seger and Boston songs with my dad - but I think dancing to "Night Moves" might be a tad inappropriate!  Besides "We've got tonight," can anyone else think of any Bob Seger songs we could dance to?  I'm doing a little googling - just wondering if anyone had any quick suggestions.

  • Hmm.... we aren't doing "dances" but our reception's in the afternoon and the music will be mostly for background and not dancing (although since it's blues and jazz and swing, it's all very danceable for those who want to).  I can't imagine my father being super excited about dancing with me, but who knows, maybe he'll surprise me.

I think the song you choose really depends on what your relationship with your dad is like, and how formal/fun your reception will be.  I know some people whose dads would totally rock out with them, but others who'd rather dance to Frank Sinatra or Ella Fitzgerald or something.

  • Is "We've got tonight" creepy to dance to?  Because it's kind of a romantic-ish song...

    Bleh.

  • I think you should dance to Rock This Town by the Stray Cats. That would be awesome

  • AATB- I'm running into the same problem as you.  I can't pick a song for the father-daughter dance. I told my dad to choose. by tomorrow.
  • Hollywood Nights would be upbeat AND it's a Bob Seger song. I'm thinking if there are any inappropriate lyrics...

I don't know if this helps but The Vitamin String Orchestra does a slow, instrumental version of Sweet Child O'Mine. ETA: it could be used as he walks you down the aisle if you really like the song.

Also, I know it's not Seger but I was thinking Landslide by Fleetwood Mac is a nice choice.

  • I think you should go with your first instinct and dance to Sweet Child O'Mine because as a guest, I would think it was cool.

  • We nixed everything but our first dance, but I would have totally done the Safety Dance with my dad.

You know, that dance isn't as safe as everyone says it is.

I have thought about doing "Old Time Rock and Roll."

That's funny you would suggest "Hollywood Nights," Mery - that is my mom and dad's song :) Since she's from California, and he met her when he was down there "a midwestern boy on his own."

  • Lol, I love "Beautiful Loser, " but yeah, no win there.

  • Decision - "Old time rock n' roll."  It's not that father/daughter-ish but it's us.

Hokay - carry on with your day :) Thanks

  • Bonus points if your dad slides across the floor in his tightie whities.

  • Glad you're going with "Old Time Rock N' Roll" because I think "We've Got Tonight" is a little Creepy McCreeperson.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Father/daughter dance... I'm getting gun shy. : Um, isn't that about Stevie Nicks' addiction to cocaine?

I don't know. I don't think it matters if that's what she wrote it about. Unless the lyrics says, "I was addicted to cocaaaaaiiiineee".

I know in the beginning of the live version Stevie Nicks says "This is for you Daddy".
  • Duran Duran does a lovely cover of Perfect Day on their Thank You album.
