Stubhub.com

Have you used it? Know anything about it? I'm looking to buy some tickets to a sold out Old Crow Medicine Show concert on New Years for H's Christmas present. And could use some advice as far as the best time to buy to get the best price, etc. Anyone?

Re: Stubhub.com

  • I buy a lot of sports tickets on there. I like it because depending on the seller they most of the time have the actual seat number. I prefer aisle sits anywhere I go. I haven't bought concert tickets on there.

Fi bought me Brandon Flowers' tickets from Live Nation exactly a week before the sold out show. He got them for 50% off. He also picked them up instead of paying the $15 shipping fee.

Yes, I have used it. I've had no issues although I only used it twice for baseball tickets.

ETA: Sorry, I know that doesn't really answer your question. I like it because usually the tickets are cheaper and there's all the tickets that don't show up on Live Nation/Ticketmaster because it's people that already bought them who are re-selling them for whatever reason.
  • Stubhub's prices make me cringe.  I know the individual sellers set the prices, but they all seem so high compared to ebay or Craigslist.  I use it as a last resort.

Ticket prices do tend to drop closer to the event, but waiting them out is risky.

  • I use it all the time, mainly because i suck at sports stuff and it guarantees valid tix.
  • If you want tickets, you'll find them there.  But it's pretty much guaranteed they'll be overpriced.

Ben and his family use it a lot to buy Twins tickets - especially this past year.  With the opening of Target Field, a ton of people bought a shiit ton of tickets and they sold them for double or even triple what they were worth because they knew people wanted tickets that badly and would pay it.

On the flip side though - if you're ever looking to SELL tickets, it's fantastic!  I won four Twins tickets this summer and couldn't go to the game, and Ben sold them for me on Stubhub.  I got 400 bucks for four tickets that were originally worth 50 bucks apiece :)

  • I guess i should clarify why i said they were cheaper now. I have never used Craigslist/Ebay/Scalper to get them any cheaper.

I guess it depend on the event and how long you wait before buying them.

For me, considering what I've gotten I didn't think the prices were all that bad.
  • I use Stubhub all the time.  Each seller sets their own price so look for something as close to retail value as possible.  I find ticket prices usually drop the closer you get to the event because people are worried they will get stuck with the tickets.

  • Hurmmmm. That's helpful, guys. For some reason, ebay tickets are more expensive than StubHub right now. I tried Livenation, but it just directed me to ticketmaster, and the show is sold out. I'll keep looking and try to wait it out as long as I can.

Depends.  The Twins tickets have just been in high demand, so who knows :) You'll just have to wait and see!
