Sharing of Important Items

So, I feel the need to be an AW and tell you all about my little warior. He passed his test to get his green stripe belt today. I was so proud of him! He worked really hard for it. His teachers were so happy for him. That was the highlight of my day.

Also, I got this kind of WTF email from Ben's school today.

There was a brief look-down today (before Noon) as a result of a pedestrian
on the green way. It was reported that the person had a rifle. The elementary and middle schools went into look-down. Law enforcement located the individual and determined that he had a tripod on his shoulder. Law enforcement also determined that the individual was not photographing children.

In situations like this, it is always good to take appropriate precautions. All staff and children responded appropriately to the look-down. We returned to normal activities after hearing from law enforcement that all was clear.

I don't know what worries me more. The fact that some creep was wandering around with a rifle looking tripod or that the principal of the school doesn't know the difference between look and lock. :)

• I was really hoping the point of this was to tell us that you were concerned about the look-down. It took me a minute to even figure out what they meant. I was like...like a search?? Ha!

And? Congrats to Ben! What did he have to do to get it?

• Woot for Ben! I wish I had taken karate when I was younger. My mom is...at least an orange belt, but that was a couple years ago.
• I thought maybe "look down" was a strange school term I just wasn't familiar with.

More importantly, Congrats to Ben! That kid is so cute!

• Thanks guys! He had to do the first 8 steps. It's hard to explain, but he basically steps in various directions eight times and then punches and screams.
• ps - CEW, look down.

No really. In my sig :)
• Aw congrats to Ben! Green belt was my favorite back in the day. I don't remember what the hell i had to do to accomplish it, but it was awesome.

And that email is scary for so many reasons. Mostly the major spelling mistake.
• YAY Ben.

Maybe it was a clever pun... instead of a lock-down for a gun, it was a look-down for a tripod? eh? eh?
• Yay congrats to Ben.

• I think the best part of the look down is that it's clearly not just a typo. Because it's spelled like that 3 times. Out of 3 times.

• M&M! I love it! It's like an early Christmas present. Happy dances and hard ons all around.

This is what puzzle me too. And then I got a f/up email that said: The previous message said we had a look-down. To clarify, we had a lock-down.

I love it because he says it like there is such a thing as a look down.

That quote is a total viagra in itself.
• Maybe they wanted to make sure everyone knew they weren't looking down shirts.

• I was seriously confused by what a look down is. Then it finally dawned on me it meant lock down. How does he mis-spell it that many times and not notice.

Also, Congrats to Ben.

• And I asked Ben about it and he here's how he described it: "We go into our safe place with no windows because there was a bad man outside that might shoot children". Then he said "but then we found out that it was all just for practice. We practiced for HOURS."

Bless his heart. I asked him if he was scared and he said that he really was.
• Aw, poor little guy! What do they do with those poor kids for hours? That must be hell for the little ones.

• oh wow cew! That must have been so hard on Ben. And I bet those teachers are drinking tonight!
• It probably just seemed like hours. And knowing kindergarteners, they probably just sat around and laughed at farts and ate boogers.
• Oh my goodness, Cew. That must be really hard for them to understand. It scares me, as an adult.

And woot for Ben for his new ass-kicking skills. Though I bet he learned most of that from his mom.

That's what worries me too, Mara. I just think back to when I was 5 and if I thought someone that wanted to shoot children was really that close, I would be terrified. He didn't seemed to phased by it. I think the teachers probably handled it really well and kept them all calm. His teaher is amazing. I'm sure she was really patient and honest with them.

[QUOTE]GO BEN! YAY for him doing so well! That is so so scary. That is one of my worst nightmares as a stupid and I am 25 years old. I cannot imagine being that young and being in lock-down. So scary. He's a total trooper.

Don't talk bad about yourself like that Star!
• Oh man, I wish we had been in a lookdown instead of a lockdown. At least we'd be able to see what was going on!

Not, but seriously, both are equally frightening (the lookdown and the fact that it was referred to as a lookdown). But Ben does sound like a very smart, very good little boy.
• Thanks Nates! He is a little smart guy. I'm always shocked at how much he remembers.
• Aw yay for Ben but boo for lock down! I wonder how many emails they got back asking what a look-down was before they sent the second email....

• Congrats to Ben! Now, if you can just find him another school...
• Yay for Ben with his karate!

For some reason, "look-down" takes my mind to a vaguely dirty place, vague enough that I'm not sure what is happening there.

• Congrats to Ben!!

Which is the color belt where you've mastered roundhouse kicks to the face?
image
• I think that's the last belt. In order to graduate from the little tigers program, they have to roundhouse kick their partners. Then, they move on to bare knuckles boxing.
