Colored or White wedding shoes

So, I love the shoes I got for the wedding, but my FI said they are weird. I generally like funky shoes, and I usually pay more attention to what shoes I'm wearing than the clothes I'm wearing. FI's mom was shocked to find out I wasn't wearing white shoes to the wedding....

So I'm just curious, are my shoes ugly? Because I really thought they were cute.




Sorry about my foot being on the counter, the kitchen has the best lighting.

And I'm curious how many people wear colored wedding shoes as opposed to white/ivory shoes, since his family looks at me like I'm from another planet when they find out my shoes aren't white.

I wore black, but no one on his side even knew what shoes I was wearing until they were on my feet, so if they had an opinion I didn't hear it. I wouldn't worry about what anyone else thinks about your shoes. If you love them, wear them!

Mine were silver to match my light blue dress. Halfway through the reception I ended up barefoot. Wear what you want, forget everyone else.

Here's my honest take on the colored shoes thing (and this is coming from someone who wore orange shoes). 

It's a trend and it "dates" our wedding.  Personally I don't care.  It's hard to not wear anything that dates your wedding, and I think colored shoes are cool.

People who aren't on TK or other wedding forums think it's weird.  And as a fellow NCer, you know trends are like, 5 years late getting to our state, so it's not surprising when everyone gives you a raised eyebrow for something cool or different you're doing at your wedding.  People were all stink eye when they heard I was wearing orange shoes, then I got a bajillion compliments on them at the wedding and afterwards.

Mine were burgundy.  I had a hard time finding ivory/white wedges that I liked and I suck at standing in grass wearing heels.  My mother was not a fan of the idea.  I wore my flip flops for the after party.

I'd wanted to wear coloured shoes, but just couldn't find any I really liked.  I fell in love with the white shoes I ended up wearing.  But I definitely switched to a pair of platform J Crew flip flops by the end of the night.

Your shoes are NMS, but if you love shoes, and you love those, then I say go for it!

I wore gold shoes.  If you like your shoes and they "go" with your wedding style then have at it.  They aren't my style but they don't have to be.

I've got purple heels to wear down the aisle, and then for the reception I will be wearing purple Chuck Taylor's.  Anyone I have mentioned this to thinks that it is a great idea and ends up wanting to do the same thing (I work in a wedding gown shop)

Your shoes are NMS even though I love the color. However, if they are your style, rock the heck out of them! I certainly would have done a color if I could have found the ones I wanted for less than $300.

Thanks everyone... you definitely made me feel better about the shoes. I do love them, and they are my style. My MOH told me she's never heard of someone wearing colored shoes with their wedding dress, but even if it wasn't a trend, she would still see me doing that because it's just how I am. I'm honestly surprised FI thought my shoes were weird, you'd think he'd be used to my choice of shoes by now. Oh well.

Sarah, I looked at some similar shoes but they were the wrong color pink and waay out of my price range. I was lucky and found those for $40.

Mine were pale gold, but my short cocktail dress was ivory with a pewter skirt and a copper band around the middle, and had shiny strands through the middle.

Pale gold were the closest we could find to coordinate.

Go for it, Fraser. I hope to get light blue shoes. I know it's been done and it's trendy, but damnit I don't care!

Most of the "bridal" shoes I've found look pretty matronly to me.

Mine will be green. I say go for it - they're cute and you love them! That's all that matters. And FWIW, my mom and aunt HATE the idea of colored shoes. I told them they're my feet, so it's my choice.

As seen in this picture, my shoes were purple. And they didn't last long, but while they did I loved them and so did everyone else. I find it strange when people "haven't" heard of this trend. If you need more evidence visit 'The Brides Cafe" they have plenty of pictures there.

ETA: Love your shoes BTW.

I love colored shoes. Yours are very cool- if you love 'em, go for it. If fi really hates them, maybe it's an excuse to find another cool pair that he'd like a bit more, while still being in line with your excellent taste.

I'm probably going to wear colored shoes. With my miserable feet, I'll be lucky if I can find ANY pair of shoes, and I'll just buy whatever I can get them into!

The only way I'm going to let my FI pick shoes that are more his taste is if he's going to be wearing them himself. Who cares if he hates your shoes?

I wish I wore colored shoes. Would you believe that with all the wedding crap going on, it never occurred to me not to get white shoes? Boooo. I did like my shoes though

I picked "colored" but I'm wearing silver shoes. I don't understand buying white satin shoes that you'll never wear again. If I'm buying shoes, I'm buy awesomesauce shoes that I will love and wear forever.
