Matt Cawley had planned to propose to his girlfriend Stacey Scanlonon the jetty of Bass River Beach on Cape Cod. The Dedham native tied the $9,000 engagement ring to a large sand dollar and left it, hoping to lead Scanlon there shortly after.

When he pointed out the sand dollar, Scanlon picked it up and the knot untied sending the ring into the ocean. The couple, along with four lifeguards and some good samaritans searched for the ring for more than 4 hours.

That sucks. His intentions were good, but I would never let a 9k ring out of my sight. Much less leave it unattended near a large body of water.

Me too, Nates.  Not only is that a lot of money, but it completely ruined what was supposed to be a happy day.  I don't think it's funny.

That kind of story just makes me sick fo my stomach. I would be absolutely sick with grief if something important like that went missing.

That's a sad story. I think that happened a while ago though. I remember telling FI about it and him just shaking his head.

J didn't even hand me my ring. The lady at Kay's did after I picked it out.
