Why are people so rude?

Re: Why are people so rude?

  • Oh dear, I work in health care too and the rudeness is just pervasive. I find the younger people to be worse though. I would take care of little old ladies all day.

I work as a hospitalist (an internist who only sees hospitalized patients) and it is very common for patients and family members to make or answer phone calls while I am having a discussion with them. I don't do it to you - don't do it to me. And then expect me to repeat everything or come back later. Sorry, I've got lots of other patients to see.

Ugh, I could go on, but I am at work at 4:30 am and have to go see someone who will yell at me as usual.

    End vent now.
  • Sorry, Roxy. That sucks. You should invite them over and have a lavish spread of delish food that they can't have.

Once FI and I were invited over for a spaghetti dinner from a co-worker. She asked me to bring ground beef and spaghetti sauce on the way over.

I worked retail FOREVER and had countless rude experiences. The guys were always the worst. I had many guys talk to me like I was working in a strip club and I had many guys ask for a man to help them because I "probably don't know what I'm talking about." It sucked.

Also, isn't Fred Meyer store just Meijer?

  • the only major rudeness i've dealt with lately was a student from my last summer session. it ended last week. he apparently took two classes that session, plus works full time. so obviously this is a perfectly logical reason as to why he didn't perform well in the class. and because of this, and because the school screwed up telling me the date of the final and he took a day off from work that he didn't need to, i should give him an extension on a extra credit paper and give him a higher grade. because you know, it's a summer class and i need to take that into consideration. he ended up with a D in the course. he really wanted a B. so he said he was willing to accept a C. i told him that he earned a D, and that's the grade he was getting. he also is the only person in a class of 15 who got a D. most other students got A's and B's actually. he then said that he was just exercising his student rights. i told him he was trying to negotiate a higher grade, which is not his right as a student. he really pissed me off. i was tempted to change his grade to an F just because i don't like him.

other than that the only real rude people are other drivers that feel the need to do like 10 mph everywhere. wtf people get the hell out of the way. if you want to drive that slow get in the damn right lane and do it.

Guys did really suck when it came to retail. I worked in a clothes store and they would come in looking for something to buy their girlfriend or wife. Usually they'd ask me or another worker to try something on so they could see how it fit (of course, it would be a tight dress or bathing suit). Then they'd say we have crappy service when we refused. Idiots.

An old guy once got mad because our seats were just outside the waiting area. He thought that was inappropriate because no man should ever be that close to a ladies' changing room. We offered to move it off to the side and he yelled at us, saying we were demeaning him and his strength.
  • I see you feel my pain, Se. That's really creepy guys asked you to try stuff on. Guys are so strange.

  • I just recently went to a shower for my FSIL. I'll call her MegaB...

MegaB's soon to be SIL had a baby a few months ago and was one of those ladies with a basketball belly, which just sort of "disappeared" after giving birth. Awesome for her. MegaB's sister had a baby in spring 2009 and still has a lot of the weight (big deal), and her brother's wife had a baby in fall 2009, lost a lot of weight but still working on it.
Brother's wife says to SIL "wow! you look great!"

Then brother's wife made a comment in front of MegaB and some BMs (while they were talking about babies) about how good SIL looked... MegaB says:
"Yeah I know! I told sister that you and her were going to be PISSSSED off when you saw her because she looks so good and she JUST had her baby"

I, unfortunately, was not in that room at the time of the statement, but I would have had no qualms about calling her a bitch to her face. FI was not at all surprised when I told him about MegaB's comment.

Side note: MegaB says she won't "be able to" gain weight when she gets pregnant, so she won't "have the same problem" as sister and brother's wife. Keep dreaming, bitch...
  • Oh, I'm sorry about your day but I laughed imagining a man throwing hearing aid at you, sorry !

I don't know if this is on the same level of rudeness as you other ladies but...

FI and I invited a friend of his and his girlfriend to the pool as our guests one day. This girl is the BIGGEST skank. The whole time her phone was ringing really loudly, and it was all of these different guys. She was screaming on the phone at them. She's freaking crazy. Her boyfriend and her got in a fight right there at the pool. They were screaming and everything. It was so embarrassing because everyone was staring and laughing. I know I shouldn't be embarrassed, but they were our guests!! You don't behave like that! We told them that if it continued, they would have to leave because they were making a scene. Pure trash. We've tried to get FI's friend to get rid of her, but he keeps crawling back. The entire day was filled with stories from her about how she goes to a methadone clinic and takes all these pills and how so-and so punched her in the face last night and how someone else burned her with a cigarette. GAAHH!!! What a loser. Please dump her now! Her behavior was so unacceptable. We were nice enough to let him bring Tramp as a guest, and this is how she behaves in public??

I'm having trukey and mashed potates for dinner.  Want to come?  Can you stop and pick up a turkey for me?
No, that's not my real name. And FH's name isn't Nun (as in Nun ya bidness) either.
  • Many of my rude experiences at work (through out the ages) center on gross old men who find it funny to call me pet names and then act like I am a moron. I can not tell you how much that grinds my gears.

Haha its ok, we're laughing about it now. At least it wasn't a nasty hearing aid.
  • Hey Colsta--I'm a specialist in a large hospital, and I hate it when you're trying to explain something and people are answering cell phones.  I feel guilty when I have to leave to answer a stat page.

On that topic, I also can't stand it when people are on the phone in rooms at my office, and they hold up a hand, like "wait a minute" when I walk in the room.  Ummm, did you make an appointment to see me?  At this time?  I'm on time and you didn't have to wait.  How about not making me (and the entire day of patients behind you) wait too.
  • Jackie- Ugh! We've had patients do that. It's like um, you have an appointment- hang up the phone!
  • It drives me crazy Roxy.  More that they're being rude to the other patients, not even necessarily rude to me.  I'm protective of my patient's time.

God love you for doing what you do.  I know how bloody hard it is when you're at the front desk.
