Good Christening gifts

Hey all!
J's cousin is having a Christening this weekend for her new baby girl. Considering I've only kinda been to one once with a friend, I have no idea what to get for the occasion. I know lots of people give the baby religious gifts--Bibles, rosaries, Precious Moments dolls, etc.--I wanna do something cool. J of course has no idea.

Suggestions?

Re: Good Christening gifts

  • Etsy! Other than, I have no idea.
    Ooh custom baby ring?
  • They are Catholic, but I don't think they are really Catholic, ya know? I mean they go to church I guess, but they aren't like the die-hards every Sunday types.

  • A beautifully made all-white blanket. You could have it embroidered with the child's name and christening date (maybe in gold thread).

Or a sterling silver bank, cup, or spoon, all engraved.

I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew
  • I was actually going to suggest a baby ring too! I had one when I was a baby and my parents still have it. It's kind of a neat heirloom type thing.

  • I love baby rings, I think they're too adorable. I have one from when I was about 5. So tiny.
  • How about a preservation package for the christening gown? With a monogrammed padded hanger?
  • like a ring small enough to fit a baby?
I don't know that we have time to get something engraved. Procrastination, party of 2...

  • Wait, you mean a ring babies wear on their fingers? Isn't that a major choking hazard?
  • This isn't particularly original or creative but FI and I are practical and we always get them a savings bond. It's something that can be tucked away and mature over the years.

I don't know how much you're looking to spend, but maybe a $50 savings bond and a small gift - a toy, a children's book they might like in the future. I just saw a commercial for the recordable children's books they have now. They're similar to the greeting cards that play songs when you open them, except you or your H (or both) can record yourselves reading the story. And basically, as each page is turned, your voices will read the story outloud to the child. I thought it was a cool idea.
  • A personalized blanket?
    A baptism keepsake box?
    A baby bible book?
    engraved rattle/cup/spoon

I actually still have my baptism gifts and love them dearly. Monogrammed silver brush and comb set.
  • I just saw yours, Jamine! Ha!
I'm gonna go peruse some baby shops nearby and find something.
Thanks for all the suggestions! keep 'em coming--I have until Sunday.

    What a good idea!
  • Yup, ring that is baby size. Not a choking hazard because you make sure it fits snug and I dont think they wear it all the time.
  • A baby ring makes me think of Designing Women and Suzanne's baby wig.

  • A picture frame?  A Catholic store might have a baptism one.

This is always what we do. Works for me...
  • That Things Remembered store is a good place to look, as well. And I think they engrave pretty fast. You COULD do initials and the date, even.
