Snarky Brides

Please calm me down.

Four days from my wedding and I have the worst bladder infection I've ever had. It's so bad that its made my abdominal area bloat out like I'm pregnant. Started antibiotics last night which give me horrible side effects and havent helped at all yet. I'm also late for my period from stress, yet my pms is worse and worse. I now have a sore throat as well. I feel like I'm ready to snap, in so much pain, exhausted, want to start my period NOW so that I can at least have relief from that, and I'm scared that my sore throat means I'm getting sick. Just got into an argument with FI too because he did not once ask me how I'm feeling so I kinda blew up at him. I thought the last few days before your wedding were supposed to be "lovely"...I am sick, scared and just wish I could leave work and sleep. Please say I will be better for the wedding.

You poor thing! Get some cranberry juice and OJ in your system. You could also try to get some over the counter diuretics to relieve the bloating, and avoid salt. I hope you feel better!

  • Dr. raynes prescribes a glass of wine, some dark chocolate and a hot bath.

And all the things anna said.

  • I'm sorry you're not feeling well. What terrible timing. You should try to leave work and take a couple sick days. You really need to let your body rest as much as possible. If you push yourself too much it can make it worse or take longer to get better.

    *hugs*

  • Like everyone said, drink a lot of cranberry juice (not cocktail, actual juice) and a lot of water.  Don't take any baths until your UTI is gone.  If the antibiotics don't start helping in the next day or so call your doctor again.  I hope you're feeling better by the end of the week.

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

  • Are you in pain from the infection? Did the doctor prescribe those pills that make your pee red/orange? Those should help with the pain from that. If he didn't give you any, they have them available OTC.

Drink lots of fluids, which will help with the infection. Maybe some hot water with lemon to help with your sore throat.

Just rest as much as you can, and try not to get stressed out.

  • When I get UTIs I always take an OTC with the antibiotic. It makes your pee orange, but it works to dull the pain and urgency.  I think the one I usually use is called Cystex.

  • Yeah, there's one called AZO too.  It saved my life. Not literally, but oh my god I know your pain.

Cystex is good before you go see the doctor, but since she's already on antibiotics it's best to avoid adding any more that haven't been doctor-prescribed.  You can get the analgesic without the antibiotic included.  It should be right next to the antibiotic one on the shelf.

  • Yeah, the AZO ones were the ones I was talking about. It should be in the "feminine" care aisle of the drug store. Next to all the "creams."

  • AZO is a godsend when you have a UTI, but if you get it make sure to wear old underwear because it will stain your underwear orange.

  • Thanks everyone...
I am going to get cranberry juice at lunch and will be in bed super early tonight.
I'm the only paralegal here today so that's why I cannot leave work. I can take "Azo", the OTC pill for bladder pain but I need to make sure that the antibiotics are helping, so I'm not taking anything for pain.
And you're right - even if I'm not 100% better in 4 days, I'm still getting married so I will focus on that :)

  • Definitely drink cranberry juice, and OJ to fend off the cold. Maybe even take some airborne (it's a vitamin) along with the OJ. My mom and brother swear by it, and they're never sick.

I"m sorry about being sick, that really sucks. BUt your meds should kick in soon so hopefully by the end of the week you'll be ok. Just get as much rest as possible.
  • You are right, B & Zippity. I have used AZO before, but I couldn't remember the name. Both work well at relieving the pain and urgency symptoms.

    That or wear a liner.

  • Oh and I apologized to FI...thanks for pointing that out, for a moment I felt totally justified. Ha!

  • Go buy some Airborne or whatever you call it, get some nutrients in to flush the bad out!

  • Don't worry, relief is coming soon. The antibiotics should kick in within a day.  Bladder infections are the worst...  If you don't feel better in a day and a half or so, I would call your doc because maybe you might need a stronger antibiotic.  Also, maybe the antibiotics will help with the sore throat!

Drink up on the fluids and get lots of rest.  ANy way you can take a half day tomorrow?
  • It will be ok, I promise. Just think of it this way, you are getting "the worse" out of the way already and just have "for better" from now on (cheesefactory I know).
  • leah2b - good idea, I just might take a half-day...

katiewhompus - not cheesy, thats a good way to look at it :)

Thanks for all of the suggestions and encouragement...off to get cranberry juice now.

[QUOTE]Drink lots of cranberry and orange juice (good for your pipes AND to stave out illness) Don't forget to sleep.  Your body heals the most when you're in bed. Breathe.  No matter if your end up sick or not, you'll be married soon!  Be happy! Try not to snap at your FI.  It'll only stress you out and make you sicker.

  • YIKES! That's some serious stress, right there. I agree with everyone. Just let the meds do their thing and try to remain calm and positive. I'd recommend a hot shower and a nice, dark room for a few hours. Hang in there!
  • awww, I'm sorry to hear that!
100% cranberry juice is better than the 10% juice cocktails, so try and drink that.
Can you take time off of work? You really could use the rest to de-stress and heal, too.

Hang in there! Relax as much as you can and ditto everyone's sentiments here

  • So, I have *heard* that this helps but haven't tried it....but supposedly if you drink: 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar, 1 teaspoon honey, and a full glass of water - it will help.  Like I said I haven't tried it tho, but I feel your pain.

(P.S. Since I feel like I came out of nowhere, umm, I'm a lurker who posts moreso in NEY, erm - but I wanted to at least pass along the info to you...!).
  • stop acting like such a bitch.

  • Awwww man, that sucks total balls.  I hope you feel better - I had my first ever UTI this year and I thought I was pissing straight-up fire.  They're no joke.  Definately try the AZO if the pain is too bad to deal with, but it took about 2 days for the antibiotics to take effect with me.  You can still take AZO though, just wait for a while when it fades away before taking more and see if you still have problems.  That will tell you if the antibiotics are working.

If I wanted to hear the pitter-patter of little feet, I'd put shoes on the cat. image

  • NuggetBrain - yep, that's pretty much how they feel! I'm going to cave in and take some AZO tonight.
