Snarky Brides

Personalized vows

FH and I have decided to write our own vows. I have no problem with this because I am a writer by nature. The problem is I have been writing mine for over a month and I can't decide what I want to say!! I get something on paper, and think that it is great and then I come up with something else. UGH!! I am so frustrated with this.

For those of you who wrote your own vows, how did you know that what you had was "good enough"?

Re: Personalized vows

  • I think that if you try and plan each and every word that much it's going to come out sounding really fake in the end. Follow musica's advice.

[QUOTE]I worked off of what Sucrets had... My vows ended up being very different, but I liked the different areas that she covered. I knew I wanted something totally different but also incorporating the parts of traditonal vows that I liked. I only wrote one draft, just free-flowing, and it was right. Here's what I said: Mr. Poli, I promise to love you With all of my strength and all of myself. I vow to be your best friend, your partner, your lover And to do everything in my power to make you as happy as I am today. You have always seen the best in me, Helping to show me my strengths and forgiving me my imperfections. I promise to do the same for you, As I love, honor, and cherish you, Forsaking all others and holding only unto you. Before us lies an open path, Filled with adventure and love, And I choose to spend today, and all of my tomorrows, with you To have and to hold, for richer and for poorer, in sickness and in health, As my friend, my love, and the father of my children.

  • Holy crap Poli those are some beautiful vows.

But those vows are the very reason I refuse to write my own.  I couldn't say any of that without crying my eyes out!  Props to you!

  • Lol, Benjamin. I want to write my own vows, and I accept the fact that I will cry through all of it. My FI was iffy about writing his own vows for this exact reason, but once he realized how much I wanted us to say our own he changed his mind. I get teary just thinking about what I will say, and I have ten months to go until the wedding!
