Seriously. Whats the point in upping a story?  Pathedic.

Example:

Me:  "Man, I got pulled over this morning."

One-Upper:  "I got pulled over this morning by a cop that ended up  not being a cop, and then he frisked me on the side of the road, but when I left, I hit a bird.  And then I ran out of gas and hitched a ride here to work.  It was the saddest thing ever.  Can you believe how awful MY morning has been?"

My stepbrother's girlfriend is like that. She even went so far as to argue with my little brother over who was the better egg cooker at McDonalds (he worked there in high school, she worked there years and years before he ever did).

Actually, my brother's girlfriend is like that too, one-upper and someone who refuses to admit when she's wrong. Whatever you say is usually met with, "Well, MY dad has this" or "My parents already took me to see that." So I've just started messing with her now to see how far she'll go. The last time I managed to convince her that Justin Beiber was from South Africa and got his start as a teenage rapper then watched her backpeddle when she found out I was joking.

This thread is cracking me up. My FI has pointed out to me that my mom tends to be a one upper. Example: I'll say, "ugh, mom I feel awful I've had a migraine for 4 days." She'll say, "that's terrible, I once had one that lasted six days!" Or when she was talking to this lady I made friends with who works down the street from my house who has MS about how bad her mystery pain is.
Best was when she traveled a lot internationally for work and didn't really one up, but went on and on and on about this FABULOUS 7 course dinner she had in a castle in Denmark (?) and the show they saw afterwards and blah, blah, blah. And when she asks what we did for dinner the response (in unison on speaker phone): "We had pizza." Still love her though

Oh yes, the people who refuse to admit they're wrong are the worst.

One of my friends said she wanted to eat at the grilled cheese truck that was on the Great Food Network Race. Another friend said, "Do you mean the burger truck? They make burgers between two grilled cheeses. There IS a grilled cheese truck, but it's not on the show. Meredith and I have been watching the show and she's been to the grilled cheese truck." She said, "No, it is on the show. I saw it advertised on the side of the grilled cheese truck. I know what I saw!" Okay, sure, we've only been watching the show when you haven't...

Then the other day we were at a brewpub: "Do they have a beer like Blue Moon?" Me: "You'll probably like the hefeweizen. Blue Moon is a hef." Her: "No it's not. I don't like hefeweizen." Ugh.
