Re: So lost

  • I sat right there with mine while I had it appraised. I did hate that I hate to wait a couple days when they resized it though.
  • I had to have my e-ring sized a while back and the jewelry store kept it for like two weeks. I didn't realize until then how much sentimental value I placed on a piece of jewelry. It felt weird not wearing it.

  • Awww =(.  I know the feeling.  I waited 10 months after H proposed to get mine sized.  When I finally did, I had to wear a stand-in so I would quit freaking out thinking I lost it.

  • Same here, LC - those were long weeks! But worth having it resized.  Those little sizer inserts I was trying to use were not doing the trick.

I also hate it when H forgets to put his back on; his finger looks really naked without a ring now.
  • Well the jewelry store he bought it at gave us something with the value but it wasnt a appraisal so insurance wouldnt accept it. They wanted us to pay $200 and send it off for 6-8 weeks. NO WAY JOSE!

Luckily his family knows a jeweler and he can get it done in a couple days and its only $40.

I never realized how attached I was to it till I had to go a day or two with out it... I feel silly but its so sentimental LOL />.

  • $200?!? Holy cow.

$40 is a really good price. We paid $95 to have mine appraised.
  • Yeah his family owned a hardware store for a long time and it was right next door so he knows FI's family very well.

Yeah I was little taken back by the $200 with as much money as he spent on the ring they should it for free.

  • $200??  Good lord!

When H purchased my ring it came with an appraisal for free - or maybe it was just factored into the final cost to appear free?  Who knows lol.

Me too. And a dent that doesn't go away even if I take my (now properly fitting) ring off for a few hours.

  • I don't wear mine to work, so I hardly ever wear it anymore (it makes me sad, but soon I'll be able to wear it again!!!), but the first couple weeks I stopped wearing it to work I freaked several times a day.  Now it feels weird to have it ON.

  • Mine got taken in to get soldered and engraved... last fucking TUESDAY.  They originally told us it would take a week for our rings to get done and they were done by Friday, and now our rings are just sitting in a ring box taunting me.  He's wanted to wear his ever since we got it, but it's been tough wearing mine for eight months and then all of a sudden not having it for nearly two weeks.

I always feel like a dumbass because I catch myself gazing at my left ring finger, seeing an old ring I'm wearing instead, and thinking... ah crap.

FI too. He thinks it's colossally unfair that I get to wear a ring and he has to wait until the ceremony to wear his.

  • Yeah - I actually knew a guy who wore his wedding band up until the wedding and I told Ben he certainly could if he wanted to, but he never did.  I think he was afraid people would think he was weird or something.

  • Ugh, i hate that feeling! I felt so strange with out my e-ring when i had it sized. I was without it for 5 days!
I hope you get it back tomorrow!!

  • HAHAH.. We went and got FI's ring saturday.  We didnt get anything fancy. He told me get whatever you want but no diamonds and nothing shiny. So I picked out one I really liked. We got lucky it was on sale for $100.  SOLD!  My wedding band has been sitting in my jewelry box since we got engaged.. I want to wear it soooo bad!

Wow. I took mine to be appraised and resized a few months back. It was back on my finger within 45 minutes of handing it off. The guy was awesome too. He charged me for the resize but not the appraisal so it was only $45.

ETA: I had to take my ring off for my surgery last week. I was already nervous about it so it made me feel naked and vulnerable to be without it.
