Dear Laundry Detergent

I dont believe that you are 4x concentrated.  I end up using the same amount before you went concentrated.  I wish you would go back to normal so I stop going through a bottle every week (or less).  I just cant imagine that a spoonful of you will clean a large load of towels.....

  • Ugh.  Tell me about it.

Back before the new packaging came out, I always used 1/3 of what the bottle said to use and my laundry came out fine.

You know what else grinds my gears?  The little lines in the measuring cup are wrong.  An extra large load is like, line 1.  So wtf are lines 2 and 3 for?

I had to quit using All when they made it "concentrated."  It just stopped cleaning my clothes.  I like Tide Coldwater now.  It works really well if you can get past the shady measuring cups and concentrated BS.

We have a high efficiency washer, and on the washer it says we have to use the high efficiency detergent. Can anyone debunk this? Who else has a HE washer and doesn't use HE detergent? I'd rather not pay $4 more for the special stuff.
  • I like those Purex 3-In-1 sheets (detergent, softener and dryer sheets). I've been using them just over a year now and they're brilliant. I also love that when I travel (like right now) I can throw a few in a ziplock baggie and use those for when I do laundry at the hotel. That way I can use my own laundry soap instead of have to buy those weird, no-name brands at the laundromat that make my skin itch and have pictures of deformed bears on them.

I like it too. In the big jugs if possible. (That's what she said.) I just pour it straight into the machine and eyeball how much goes in.

We were told not to use regular detergent because it is the equivalent of using dish soap in the dishwasher.  Big mess.  We aren't bold enough to test the waters though so maybe it's a plot to sell a more expensive product.

  • I cannot bring myself to wash my whites (which are mostly towels, linens and socks) in anything other than hot hot hot water. My BSC high school history teacher went on a tangent one day about only washing clothes in hot water because that's the only way you can get creepy crawlies out of your stuff. And it has stuck with me, even though it had ZERO to do with the Treaty of Versailles.

    Diito this.
  • My mom has an HE washer and they told her she could use the normal detergent, but that she'd have to use about 1/4 of what ti called for, and that if she did use regular detergent it would cause the washer to need repairs more often.  We never tested it, though, and now I'm glad we didn't.

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010
