Snarky Brides

I don't know anything about flowers... Halp?

Hey, this is actually WR!

My florist came back with a quote of $485 + tax and delivery (~$580 total) for one bridal bouquet, three bridesmaids bouquets, six boutonnieres and three corsages.  Does this sound normalish?  I'm having a hard time shopping around since she's one of the few florists in the area who works with succulents.  $580 seems like a lot to spend on flowers for the wedding party, but some of the girls on my local have spent thousands on flowers...  so.

I know the size of the bouquet and number and types of flowers used matters; here's the inspiration:

Mine will be about the same size, and accented jewel tones (blue delphinum, purple and deep pink dahlies, and green cymbidium orchids) instead of baby's breath.

The bridesmaids bouquets will have fewer succulents and more flowers, while the bouts and corsages will be succulents accented with either a peacock feather (for the boys) or more jewel tones (for the girls).

The work order she wrote up is everything I wanted in flowers and more, and I juuuust signed the contract... but for some reason, I'm waffling on actually putting it in the mail.

I'm entirely too indecisive about wedding stuff.  I need to hire an official decision-maker.

  • That sounds like a great deal.

Average prices I got was 200 for mine and 100 for each of the girls.  Bouts are usually 20-25 a piece, same for corsages.

But that is around my area and I dont know if floral prices are a regional thing or not.

That sounds like a great deal. I paid $560 for my bouquet, four BMs, four corsages and six bouts, but you've picked out pricier flowers than mine (mostly roses with some freesia, hydrangea, and a couple of lilies in mine)

ETA: I know it says Boston, but I got married in Knoxville, TN. So those weren't big city prices!

Oh, wow.  I imagine that things are a little less expensive in Phoenix than in Boston -- but if those averages are close at all, then I'll feel much more confident about my quote.  Thanks Blue!

eta - And Opal, too!  :)

I actually didn't pick out the flowers; the florist did after I showed her the bridesmaid dresses (or, rather, the color swatches -- we haven't decided on actual dresses yet).  I had to Google them to see what they looked like!  I honestly have no idea what one type of flower costs compared to any other, but it's interesting that she picked out some more expensive varieties.

  • That sounds about right.  I think ours are a little bit less - but I'm from po-dunk :)

Your bouquet inspiration is SO cool!  I love it!

  • Yeah it sounds pretty normal.

I got quoted $1600 for my bouquet, 7 BM's, 2 FG kissing balls, 10 bouts, 4 corsages, and 2 altar decorations.  Also inculded : aisle runner, ring pillow, and 10 pew bows if I want them.

I am still waiting for centerpiece and reception flower quote.

When she was talking about prices, the type of flowers and size of bouquet didnt really matter, unless I wanted some kind of rare flowers.

  • Everyone pretty much chimed in but I wanted to add, I freaking love that bouquet.  Succulents are my new obsession :)
  • Celles- Reddy is the one that used succulents! You probably already saw that, but I figured it out when she posted today.

Mine too!  I've saved dozens of pictures of succulent bouquets, bouts and other arrangements -- including the one in your bio!  :)

    Aww, I missed it.

  • I looked at her pics and missed the succulent part.  Boo.
  • Sounds normal. My bridal party/GMs/mothers were ~$395. Reception flowers are another $200. I'm in semi-rural Maine. I think you made out well!
  • That sounds normal. Who are you using?
  • Who's your florist? We used Butterfly Petals. I paid $500 for 4 bouquets (mine and 3 BMs), 5 mom/gma corsages, 18 bunches of centerpiece flowers, cake flowers, and...  that's it. That was with delivery.

  • Brooke- thats who T's sister is using :)
  • I'm using Butterfly Petals, too!

I suspect the succulents are driving the price, since the quote was exactly the same with either anenomes or dahlias/orchids/delphinum.  She came in lower for all flower bouquets ($370 vs. $480), but I adore succulents so the extra money is worth it to me.  Plus, I've read I can plant them after the wedding and keep them forever and ever!  FI and I are buying a house soon and I love the idea of decorating with potted succulents from my wedding bouquet.

  • I think it sounds fine...I had to do a lot of negotiating to get my flowers at the price I wanted to pay.

    $386 for 1 brides bouquet, 2 MOH's bouquets and 4 bridesmaid bouquets.
