Local/Club Boards

Poll-ish I guess.
Let's discuss. Do you visit them often? Are you a reg on them? Are there things you like/hate? Funny stories? Do you troll those boards?

I guess I am thinking about it this morning because there is a venue on one of my locals that gets discussed often. I went to a wedding there and it was seriously horrible service and food. Every time I mentioned this to warn brides, the brides who got married there freak out. I feel bad because I am sure their weddings were lovely, but obviously I want to warn people.

I should probably just keep my mouth shut because I am the only person who usually says anything negative, unless OOT is tag teaming with me. I think I scare people.

I don't visit them.  I just don't want to rain on their parade when they think something is SUCH a super good idea or their DIY centerpiece looks like a 5-year-old did it, and they just grate on my nerves.  I know I'm chicken, but I don't like being the only slightly bitter person there.

Although, this is basically the Reception Ideas board too. I had to excuse myself from that board. I has a feeling sooner or later some one was going to come cut my hair off in my sleep.

I visit the Boston board, but don't post a lot on it.  I just don't have much input on most venues, florists, etc.

I check mine every now and then.  When we finally got our IL board, I was excited and went there and the broads were lame.  One of them was constantly talking about becoming a wedding planner, and then threw her own engagement party.  I told her if she was going to be a planner she should learn etiquette.

Now its incredibly slow.  I posted a rec awhile back and there's no update if it helped or not.
Oh and just to give you an idea of the kind of girls that were on that board, remember cubsgirl from P&E?  Yeah, she was on my local.  Blah!

And as for club board, I posted a little on the Oct. 09 board, but that mod was batcrap crazy!  She gave me a questionnaire to fill out.  I never did.  It scared the crap out of me.

For some reason the knot thinks my local is alaska. I never go to my imaginary local, my real local, and Ive never ever been to my club board. I used to chat on my local a lot when I was planning, but it was actually active then.

Shelly, that is hilarious Cubsgirl was there.

I miss the old Boston board. There were tons of awesome ladies on it and now they have all gotten married. The girls there now are more there for the planning (dug) than funny stories and stuff.

I never got into my club board, which makes me sad because I now realize that there were some pretty cool peeps on it (M&M, RicksAng, LissyDee). 

My local board changes a lot.  When I was planning, it was very cliquey, and I got the vibe that they didn't like me, maybe because I was a P&E reg?  Anyway, I tried to post a few times over there but no one respond. 

I go over there occasionally to post in response to local wedding questions or to correct bad etiquette advice. 

Something kind of funny about them is they all totally have a boner for one seamstress and one photog, both out of the Raleigh area. NC is large state.  At it's widest point, I would say it's close to an 8 hour drive from the mountains to the coast.  Brides have driven across the damn state to use this seamstress they all have a hard-on for.  I get that everyone has had a good experience with her, but there are so many seamstresses.  Seriously.  Why would you drive hours repeatedly for fittings when you could just do a little research and find someone else.  I used someone in Charlotte and I was very pleased with my dress, and I would always bring her up in hopes that I would save someone from 12+ hours of unnecessary driving. 

The photog they all really like is pretty good and affordable; I really like her work and regret not doing my b-pics with her.  The reason I didn't was because they would do b-pic GTGs so that they could split the cost, and I just didn't feel comfortable being in my underwear around more than one complete stranger.

I think my local gets about one new post a week. And most of the posts are asking for venues/recs in Indianapolis. I don't live there, so I'm no help.

Heels - I actually only lurked on that club board because it was so effing crazy. Ricks might have told you all about the trolls/AEs and fights. I was a brand spanking newbs then though, so I am guessing if we both jumped in to that board today we would have a field day.

Yeah, I heard there was a lot of dramz.  I remember when Lissy told me that the first of them got divorced.  It was a while back and it's not even been 2 years.

That's almost as awkward as when my conservative, V card holding friend MODELED the lingerie she got at her shower.  She has a rockin' bod, but still.  That was soooo weird.

They have b-pic GTGs on my local too. It's super weird.

For some reason, The Knot gods decided to grace us with two locals -- Northeast OH and Cleveland. Both of them are worthless. Northeast gets more traffic, but it seems like everyone who regularly posts there is a vendor or trying to get a discount by referring you to their vendors. There was a mod, but she got married last year and hasn't been back so it's like the wild west with vendors advertising over there. One of the biggest regs was a girl who got married in 2008 and then started her own planning business and didn't exactly try to hide the fact that she was a vendor (but she didn't explicitly advertise for herself either, to be fair) but weirdly she hasn't posted since maybe the first of the year, so I suspect someone reported her.

Cleveland doesn't get as many posts but has the same problems, except I suspect the mod there is a vendor. I've reported her but she's still the mod, bleh.

I like my month board (July 2010, like Mrs. Jesse and sarahmk) but it's pretty much ALL WEDDINGS, ALL THE TIME!!!!!1 I like weddings as much as the next soon-to-be-married, but I can't talk about wedding stuff all the time, I just can't. It used to be a really young userbase too -- I felt like the old maid at 25 -- but it's a bit more diverse now. The bad DIY project posts have dropped off too, which is nice. I had to bite my tongue a few times when I saw some of them, I'll be honest.

I don't touch my local with a ten foot pole, ever since the "bridal shower save-the-dates" debacle.  There were a lot of nice people over there and it wasn't too puppies and rainbows, but I just gave up after that one.  I never got into my club board, either.

My local is dead. I visit my club board but not often. I gave the girls there my FB. I think most olf them are awesome though.

One of the girls on there causes drama sometimes. I have called her out on it. She lost her twins and has a semi death picture in her sig now that makes me sad.

Oh one of the girls did get divorced. Her husband was cheating on her with a woman that was at their wedding! I think he told her he didn't love her anymore and said he was leaving her for this woman. Ugggh so bad

My local isn't that bad.  The few times I asked for recs, everyone was really helpful and gave great advice.  It's just so slow, I can visit it once a week and there won't even be a whole new page of posts.  People respond to posts, but just don't make ones.

Heels, my local recommends a photographer pretty often whom I met with. Her work was mediocre, overpriced, and she was a huge biitch. Sometimes when someone brings her up I'll be like, "Yeah, she really wasn't my style. I didn't have a great experience with her, which is why it's really important to meet your prospective photographers in person." 

The people on my local never post on the national boards, except the mod (who's sort of a WP reg and really cool) and one other girl who used to be on my club board and is the mod of AAW. Mostly there's ONE girl who posts on my local. Every other post is by her. About anything she wants to talk about. And it's really obvious she never visits the national boards because she's putting "no kids" and "all black attire" on her invites.
