Can we talk about weight for a minute?

Re: Can we talk about weight for a minute?

  • Blue, if you ever want to meet up during the week and take a nice long walk, let me know. I desperately need to lose the baby weight, and Kieran likes going for walks. I try to an hour long walk around my neighborhood every day, but there are a few parks around here that are good for walks too. I could use someone to motivate me to do it more.

  • How do you friend people??

  • In addition to tracking calories, it is also important to 'listen to your body'.  I was reading some information on it, and if you can, try a few of these:  no distractions while you eat (no tv, radio ,talking, etc..), put down your fork as you chew before getting your next bite ready, chew between 15-25 times per bite, and stop when you're satisfied rather than full.

It takes several minutes for our bodies to tell us that we're full, so often times we over eat at meals (even if it is just by a little bit).

Portion control will also be your friend.

Don't cut out all of the things that you love because your chance of having a cheat/binge day goes up higher.

I followthis blog(clicky) and she has great recipes.  She lost around 150 lbs. by using walking as her main exercise, so your plan is definitely doable!  GL!

  • Brandi- My portion control is pretty good.  I always take a small plate rather than the big ones we have and I take 1 scoop of each thing.  1 piece of chicken, 1 scoop of rice, 1 scoop of veggies (although I always go back to the veggies, lol)

But im a picker.  I wont go to the cabinet and get chips, but if H has them i will pick at it.  So that is something I need to be very aware of.

I also need to drink more water.  I probably drink less than 12oz a day.

  • Water is definitely a key thing.

Blue, my sister bought me a Camelbak water bottle for my birthday this year and I shityounot, I carry that biiitch everywhere and I drink a crapton of water because of it.  It has a removable, washable mouthpiece and instead of tipping it back to drink it has a long straw through it.  It rules.  It ruins my entire day if I forget to bring it to work - and that is not often!  I feel like I'm finally in the habit of drinking lots of water.  I drink between 48 and 60 oz of water a day.

  • Boobs- can you freeze it?  I need water to be really cold if Im going to drink it all day long.  I would rather die of thirst than drink room temp water.

  • I'm with AATB on the convenience of having a good container for your water.  I have a huge tumbler that stays on my desk with a straw and I drink maybe 3-4 of them (so probably 75 -100 oz of water) per day.  I am terrible about being hydrated during the weekend because I always leave this thing here.

  • Um, I think you can.  Like fill it up halfway and freeze?  I'd fill it and then lay it sideways so the straw doesn't freeze.

You can also fill it plum full of ice cubes - like just completely full and then fill it with water.

[QUOTE]I drink water at work when I think about it. Today I'm taking a 24ounce cup with plans to drink four of them, 2 before lunch and 2 after. I'm stopping at Whole Foods on the way in to get a salad for lunch. I need to find a good low calorie dressing, any recommendations?

I'm not sure what your tastes are, but you can make a quick and healthy dressing with lemon juice, olive oil, S&P, and some garlic. I want to say its 10-15 calories per serving with a serving being about a tsp.

  • Yeah my bottle has oz and ml markings on it.  It's 750 ml or 24 oz.  So yeah, I drink at least two full bottles a day.  More in this heat!

  • Blue, I live on Polar Seltzers. They have all these great flavors (Orange vanilla, pineapple passionfruit, black cherry, pina colada) and zero calories. I can't drink tons of plain water. Boring.

  • I'm way into vinaigrettes.  Hmm.  I like just original balsamic or the raspberry vinaigrette.  Rasp vin is so amazing on spinach or spring mix with sliced strawberries, a bit of feta, and some honey roasted sliced almonds or pecan clusters.  WANT RIGHT NOW.

I haven't tried homemade balsamic but I have a recipe I want to try, I just haven't yet since I still have a little bit left of the olive oil balsamic I have - Kraft, I think?

My faves are ranch and blue cheese, lol, so yeah, I decided to make a switch.  I still eat them once in a while but it's a dip-the-fork type of thing.

I love plain soda water, too. Other than my mom I've never met someone who drinks it plain.

If you're lazy like me and don't want to make it yourself, try the farmer boy light greek dressing.  I actually like the light better than the regular, and it's got less unpronounceable ingredients than the regular.  It's 20 calories per tablespoon.

I drink water all day at work and seltzer at home. I try not to drink anything with calories unless it involves alcohol. It's amazing how quickly drinks can add up.

I like making a dressing with just dijon, olive oil, and lemon juice with maybe some shallots or garlic. I'm having that on a mix of quinoa, asparagus, and feta right now and it's delicious.
