Snarky Brides

grrr (vent)

Yeah thats all!

Basically I have been unemployed for almost a year(FI is in grad school, I moved with him thinking I would get something) So we are moving back to NJ in just a month. I have been applying like crazy, had an interview last time I was home.

I told her that I would not be back in NJ until December 17. Well she hired me.
Well she then calls me and says she needs me to come in for training the week of Thanksgiving. Left a phone number and said return her call.

I try to call back, within a half hour, and then again about an hour later, well she hasnt set up voicemail, and is not answering. I email her just letting her know I tried to reach her and I would call back Monday(today).

Again no answer! Well I finally just reached her, and she says that since I can not make it to the training and would not be able to start until December 19th, that she has to hire someone else, but would still like me to fill out all the paper work (at least 20 pages) and she would call me for sub work, or when something became available.

What was I supposed to say!? I tried to keep calm, but lady you hired me! I was open and honest with my start date, and you hired me!! And now?!

I was so stressed already about packing and moving and paying for my health insurance and now this!!

Thanks ladies, just needed to get that out there! Now I think I need a long walk!

  • Wow, that sucks. I'm sorry you are dealing with this. Sometimes people don't pay attention to the important information. An availability issue would be the first thing I would talk about with someone I am interviewing and be sure it works for the company.

Hope you find something else quick.

  • How easily employed are you? Can you adjust your plans to take the position earlier?  I'm a paranoid grad student in a bad economy.

  • That kind of stinks.  Is there any possible way you can get back to NJ this week to start next week?  It's a shame to pass up a job because it's too early... especially since you are currently unemployed, so it's not a matter of giving notice, or anything.
  • Well, do you really want to work for someone who misses details like availability scheduling?  She'll probably schedule you to work the day of your wedding.
  • Did you fill out tax paper work?  I'm not trying to be a jerk, just wondering.  Technically I don't think she hired you with out filling out all of the tax forms.

I agree. I'm not seeing how 3 weeks makes a huge difference here.

  • Well if I go back now, FI will not be able to come home for Thanksgiving. We also currently are sharing a car, and he needs it to get to school, and his placement for school. He would not be able to pack up and drive the car and the uhaul by himself 600 miles.
I did get a paper stating my pay and scheduling. She wrote down December 19th!
I was not 100% excited about the position to begin with, but I was happy to get something, and at this point I am so turned off by this that I dont know that I would be able to work there without feeling some sort of resentment.
  • I'm soo sorry!  That has to suck.  Life is so stressful.  I know sometimes it feels like things just never go right.  I don't want to sound cliché but try to focus on the good things.  The right opportunity will come along.  What's the cliché, When one door closes another will open?
  • Did you get the start date in writing?

  • Ok Im better now, thanks for the input and allowing me to vent. I have decided that I really dont think I can work for a company like this anyway, I was havinig doubts before, its not what I was hoping for, but it was something for the time being. Anyway after this mess I have calmed down and I am starting again. I will find something, I will be ok!
