Snarky Brides

Job Seeker Question

So one of the many things I have to do in the next 3 hellish months at work is replace the lady I fired (we revamped the job description so I can get what I need). This is an entry level staff accountant position. I have about 25 resumes, and about 20 of them are either not at all qualified or more qualified than I am to do my job, and want a larger salary than I make. Its been about 5 years since I sent out resumes, so here are some questions I have:

1- Do you expect anything more than an automated response from the HR email box of every place you submit a resume? I sure as heck never did. I had 2 people (one overqualified and one not at all qualified) call me today to make sure we got their resumes. Total effing waste of my time, and didn't make them any higher on my list.

2- If you list salary requirements in your cover letter or application and the actual job pays $10-15K LESS than you require, do you honestly expect to get an interview? Or for someone to call you and tell you that?

Yes, I am that petty person that refuses to look at a resume of someone with more qualifications than I possess. Maybe its a sign of weakness. I don't care. If you requre a salary that is more than mine, then you aren't a good fit for us, and I can tell right away. I'm not in to giving my boss ammunition to get rid of me any time soon, YKWIM?

3- Do you think it would be at all helpful if I sent back the resumes with all my edit marks on them, so the senders could try better next time? The next 3 page, wall of text resume I receive with obvious misspellings and grammatical errors (inconsistent tense is my least fave), I'm going to scream.

So maybe this is just my rant for today. I need to get it off my chest. I have tons of work to do and this is just a daunting process that I know my boss wants to micromanage (she has started already) and it will take longer than necessary and that stresses me the eff out. Sorry. I guess Nebb and I just need to whine today.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Job Seeker Question : I wish we had this. We don't even have a really good screener in HR yet. They just forward me the resumes that come in and I have to sort through all of them. I have passed on a couple to other departments that I thought could work well for other positions, but honestly, I'd have no idea how to word an email that says "We got your resume but we aren't interested" and I don't have time to go through and give reasonsWhen I was applying, I just sent out resumes, put in applications, and waited to hear back. I got the best, most honest feedback from being rejected AFTER i had earned an interview. To me that is more valuable feedback than something based just off your resume. At that point, they can better assess my personality and work style and perhaps that just doesn't fit with their current team. You can be totally qualified on paper but the proper fit for the team is key, as I learned with the person I had to fire. That type of feedback, to me, is great, because it helps you to present yourself in a better, more honest way in future interviews.

We don't give feedback to external candidates. We just have an email that says "Thank you for your interest in positions XXXX. After a review of your qualifications, we do not feel that your background is the best fit for the position. We invite you to visit our website to view other openings that we have".
