*Jas* Autism Invention

Hey I thought you might be interested in this (it's a video):

CN: Two teens won a scholarship by inventing a watch-like device that detects emotion in other people, meant to be used as a "translator" for autistic children.

I thought it was pretty interesting and am curious about it in action. At my mom's therapy center they have huge pads with all sorts of answers/emotions in them for the non-verbal kids to communicate with by pointing. But that's for outgoing communication, not a whole lot goin' on to help kids input, which is why I think this is good.

I could also see a kid blurting out, "Why are you nervous, Mrs Smith?" and that being an awkward 2 seconds.

Yeah,  I can think of a few non-autistic adults I know that could use one of these.

That's so cool (both the device and the fact that two teenagers invented it).  I wonder if they have experience with autistic people.

That's fascinating. It would certainly change social interactions if it started going mainstream.

My nephew is Autistic.  I don't think he has problems reading emotions, he just has problems controlling his own.

Most people with Autism have a really hard time with social cues and other people's emotions.

He's 9, so his social awareness isn't expected to be high right now.  This might change.

Way to go for these kids, it may help my nephew some day.
