How soon to start shopping from our registry?

So...we got married two weeks ago - yay!  We got almost everything off of our registry, with the exception of a couple discrete items that we really wanted.  We have stuff we can return and gift cards and a discount to complete.

My only question is that my friends are always late in buying presents (and I'm always late for their weddings) so I know some people are still going to get us presents. 

Do I wait a couple of weeks to go shopping?

Yeah, we didn't and I wish we had.  Right after we purchased something from our registry, we received a $50 gift card from the store from one of H's brothers AND we got another gift off of our registry from a friend that we will need to return (we got duplicates from off the registry).  We could have used either of those credits toward the item we bought.  Wait at least a couple of weeks, I think.

If the late shoppers are usually registry shoppers, wait a couple weeks to give them a shot at the registry.

That said, we started working on completing our registry a week after the wedding and haven't received any gifts since the wedding that hadn't already been ordered.  We are waiting on a couple items we were told we would be receiving a few weeks after the wedding, but they are non-registry custom made items.

Meh, I'd buy stuff now.  If someone buys you a double you can always return it.
