Snarky Brides

Who do you think you are, the Queen of friggin England???

So my FI and I have friends who are getting married this weekend out of state. We are unable to attend but are still sending a gift of course. I went online to check their registry and they registered for ridiculous things. Throw pillows for their couches that are $200each, or my personal favorite is a butter dish for $165...are they having the royal family over for dinner? I have no problems sending them enough cash or a gift card that would cover our plates if we were to attend the wedding but really I can't bring myself to buy a butter dish that is so expensive..are they really going to use it???

Re: Who do you think you are, the Queen of friggin England???

  • I think you should buy them one from Target that looks like the one off their registry :)
  • I was a bridesmaid for a friend two years ago and she had a very expensive Precor treadmill on her registry.  I mean... really?

Maybe you could go in on a gift with another couple or something - or just send cash.  But yeah - a butter dish that's 165 bucks?  Prince William better be jacking off into that butter.  And it had better have no calories, either.

  • LOL!!! I agree buy a less expensive look alike! When my BFF got married last Janurary she was registered at like 6 different places for like $200.00 sheet sets and super expensive china. They are still in college and live in student housing no less! I love her dearly but her registery drove me nuts!

I would just send cash. We just had our wedding and we got SOOOO much off-registry stuff. Some of it is nice and some of it is completely wtf and getting returned. We weren't registered for any $165 butter dishes though lol.

  • A coworker did something simliar.  She registered for a $300 fish platter and a $130 silver plated dinner knife.  Yup, just the knife is $130, but at least the fork and spoon were cheaper.

I would send cash or a gift card to the store where they registered.

    LMAO!!!....YUMMM!
  • Maybe they did it so guests would send cash instead?  It's reverse trickery and sometimes it works!

We put a $425,000 house on our registry.  Either someone will send a dump truck full of cash knowing we deserve that much, or we'll get a brand new house out of this deal!
  • Some people register for the really expensive thigns hoping a bunch of people will go in on it together or that they can use their registry discount to buy it later.  Or they just want cash.

Is there NOTHING in the cheaper range?

  • buy them a toster.
  • So what happens if people dont fall for the trap and they get you these useless crazy expensive fish platters....i guess return return return huh?
  • Gift card to the store they are registered at.  We do have some pricey things on our registry because we truly want them.  We get that people may not be able to afford them and hope for gift cards to the store so we can pool them to get the stuff we want and make up the difference ourselves if need be.

But we do have $15.00 items on the list too.  And we truly want those items as well.  Smile

  • The most expensive thing I registered for was a Dyson vacuum.  I don't think anyone will buy it, but you never know.  Most of our registry items are under $30.

  • *DROOL* I want a Dyson sooooooooo bad.

I recently had to buy a really cheap vacuum to get myself by these last few months.  The one I had before finally stopped "sucking" and when I turned it over to see why I saw the rolly-pickup-brush completely wound up with years of my long hair.   ...It was tragic.  And fairly gross.

  • After my business partner told me her (and my) financial advisor bought the most expensive thing on the registry for several hundred, I added a $450 food processor to the registry. :-)

I have a dyson, and your hair will still get caught in it. My old roommate shed like a angora bunny, so twice a year I had to sit down with scissors and cut all that hair out.

Who the hell are you to judge their registry??  This just reeks of immature jealousy.  No one is forcing you to spend that much on a butter dish.

ETA:  Possibly its a crystal butter dish and they really want it.  I have a covered butter dish that is crystal and matches the rest of my crystal for $200, and no I don't expect any royalty over for dinner.  Its crap like this type of judging..... and saying people shouldn't spend  amount on the wedding or rings that pisses me off.

I shed like a wooly mammoth so I don't really think it matters what vacuum I use.  In fact, I know that getting a really expensive vacuum is probably pretty stupid for the sole reason of my hair getting stuck in it.

I do want a nicer one than the 17 dollar dirt devil I bought though :)

I shed a lot as well.....but the Dyson Pet Vacuum works the best.  I love it like nothing else.
