Snarky Brides

IF i am your SS... (POLL)

Would you mind if i included some baked goods in your gift box?

What are your favorite types of cookies/treats?

(didn't want to just post as a question on elfster as I'm horrible at not giving myself away)

I wouldn't mind, but who knows how others feel about receiving edibles from a virtual stranger.  I trust most of you guys (not whoever it was that said they burned water once)

My favorite cookies are iced sugar cookies and Krumkaka

(hopefully my pick will answer this poll.. if not..  oh well)

  • I'm answering, because man I hope you're my SS. ;) Also because I was thinking about baking, too, so hopefully my pick will answer as well!

YES TREATS! Sugar cookies and anything with peanut butter or cinnamon.

ohhh.. I love those peanut butter cookies with the hershey kiss on top

Baking something just seems like and easy way to fill up the extra empty spaces in a box for a gift.
  • I love baked goods, or even jars of stuff to MAKE the baked goods. I did that one year for Christmas for my family.

My favorite cookies / treats are: Snickerdoodles, Gingersnaps, EClairs with CUSTARD not CREAM (I know, I know, kind of hard to ship).
  • I would love home baked treats! I'm not a big chocolate or coconut person, but I love cinnamon, citrus, peppermint and SUGAR in all forms (molasses, caramel, candy etc). If you made home made marshmallows and sent them to me, I'd be in absolute heaven.

Totally understand that.  i hate the cream filled ones myself, but that gooey custard is divine!   Before our Krispy Kreme shut down, I'd always get the chocolate topped, custard filled ones.
  • I am a fan of all baked goods.

[QUOTE]Last year we did 2 SSes on P&E.  One of them was a baked good SS.  We determined it would be too difficult to actually send baked goods (I've done it before and by the time the goods arrived they were stale even though I did wrap them up very well, in fact I followed some instructions I found online).  We opted to send recipes and a small gift instead.  Just something to keep in mind.  It's not easy to ship baked goods and make sure they arrive in good eating condition.

I agree with you 100%   I've had some shipping failures in the past.  Thankfully, my little brother is just as happy with cookie crumbs as whole cookies.  I've had a lot of practice lately sending care packages overseas, so I'm fairly confident that with my vacuum-food-saver  and some bubble wrap, I can pull it off.  Good thing to keep in mind though.   :)

The food-saver is wonderful!  It lets me shop at Sam's Club for bulk food and reseal it properly for freezing or refrigeration.  Major money saver.

Plus, I have a habit of making too many cookies.  This way i can seal half of them and they're still fresh a few weeks later.
  • I think baked goods are a great idea.  It's always a nice treat :)
I was thinking of including the same in with my gift.

  • Oh geez, I hope you're my SS. I love baked goods. Not picky at all, as long as there is sugar in it. One of my favorite Christmas things is peppermint fudge. YUM.
  • I love baked goods. I'm not a big cake person, but I am a big fan of chocolate chip cookies and fudge brownies. And banana bread. Yum.

[QUOTE]Just a thought, if your SS is one of the Canadians, you might want to check customs laws on sending homemade foods.

    Totally.  Already taken into consideration.

-EDIT:  For anyone interested, you can mail baked goods from the US to Canada but they must go to a residential address and you must declare them on a customs form.

I didn't take it as rude at all.  It's always nice to have people remind you of little details to avoid a potential disaster.  And Canadian Customs officials eating my cookies  instead of the intended recipient, would be a disaster.  ;)

Me too!  I figured if i asked anonymously on elfster,  someone would be like, "okay..she's a baker.. could be anna" and it might blow my cover.  Glad to see that other people were pondering the same question.
  • oooh, is it me? Can it be me? Can you send me some anyway?

I don't eat tons of sweets, but I can't say no to baked goods! Chocolate is fine in brownie form, but I can't do milk chocolate so much anymore because of the allergy. I love snickerdoodles, kolackzis (fruited), rice krispie treats (so it's not baked but I love them), peanut butter cookies...

yeah send me whatcha got anyway! =)

  • I would love chocolate chip cookies or peanut butter cookies. I wouldn't have a problem getting baked goods if it was someone that was pretty regular here and I knew pretty well.

I wonder what the policy is on baked goods for customs. I THINK you'd be good as long as you didn't try and send me fruit or veggies =D

I called the post office and they said that if it was air mailed to a residence and everything is declared specifically (write sugar cookies or chocolate brownies, not baked goods) on the customs sheet.. no problem.
