Thoughts on lowballing/over reaching on salary numbers?

Say you realllly want the job and are in a great position for getting it?

If I reach, they can always come down. If I reach does it look ridiculous?
If it helps, a direct quote was, "what will it take you to get you to leave you job and be with us?" But, I am tempted to lowball that number to make sure I get the job.

Well, if you lowball it, then you really have nowhere to go, you know? I would be reasonable, but high. Do they know what you are making now? Have they talked about their typial salary ranges yet at all? Do you have any idea of what they pay?

They are not sharing anything at the moment. I hate to sound silly, but I think it is because they are nervous they can't afford me. In fact, I don't think they know how much I want to move to them. I could be living in my own world so that is why I am wondering what to do and for some one to keep me level.I went a few points higher than what I am making now (15-20k higher?) but I feel like if I went more it would be ok because they do pay a lot. I just don't want to lose the opportunity though.

Since they came to you and seem to really be courting you, I wouldn't worry about the other stuff. Ask for what you want and if they counter, go from there. And congrats!

ahhh! thanks!! I am just all up in my own head about this because all of a sudden I now really need to leave the job I have a lot. Again, all in my head, but I am nervous!! Thanks love!!
