I am Bkseller13 and I am judgy

My cousin is getting married in 2 weeks.  She sent out invitations with her registry and a request for "montary" gifts for their honeymoon.  And, the wedding is outdoors in MN at 2:30 in the afternoon.  Food served at 4:30, then drinks and dancing (without food) at 6:30 at the VFW.  Then, to top it off the rehersal dinner is at the KFC.

I tried to politely tell her that she might want food when she serves the alcohol, but she said that people will already have eaten and won't need any food.  I pointed out that some venues won't let you serve people alcohol without food.  She said that if her budget allowed for it, she'd have food.  Would it be bad of me to go to the local 7-11 and grab some bags of chips and salsa or pretzels if she has NOTHING for her guests?

And the dinner at KFC.  She said it's all she could afford.  I get the lack of money.  It's an outdoor wedding, why not have the rehersal as a picnic?  You could probably do that a lot cheaper than KFC.

Also: Please don't quote, I may DD.

  • Sounds like loads of fun BK!

And I love me some KFC. ;)

  • Oh man she sounds like a peach.  "montary"? Really? At least spell it right.
I don't think it'd be that out of line to go get chips and stuff, but don't feel like you have to either. They will have eaten a couple hours earlier, so it's not like their stomachs will be empty.  Many receptions have dinner ending at 7 and drinking go till midnight without any food available.

    How old is she?
  • I am LOLing at a rehearsal dinner at KFC.  Just picturing that is making my day.  Haha, I bet the GM fight over which sides to get - MASHED POTATOES OR MAC AND CHEESE?!?!?!

  • She sounds klassy.

  • Is it KFC that has those mashed potato bowls?  Those are fancy ass.

  • Is it at least a KFC/Taco Bell combo building?  Those are my favorite because I can get tacos AND mac and cheese.  Yum.

Yeah, I would definitely judge too.  I probably wouldn't buy food or anything though.

She's in her late 20s. (Old enough to know better) And, she asked for my advice and then went and ignored all my suggestions (don't put the registry info in the invitations etc.)

JCB, the wedding is at a park in an ampitheatre (which looks really pretty) and then the reception is in the picnic pavilion two hours later.  Not sure what we're supposed to do for the two hours inbetween.

She's also going to have a brunch on Sunday for alll the family to watch her open her gifts.  I was thinking that if we left early enough for the airport, we'd have a valid excuse not to go.

ETA:  I would try to tell her that she doesn't have to invite all the out of towners, but I think she's already got the email invitations done. And she hasn't listened to me yet, so there's that too.

  • I LOVE it when food is served to me in a bucket!  It's so gritty and animalistic!

    Yikes,  sounds....fun?

And to answer your question, I'd probably bring something and keep it in my car to bring out if needed.

  • The last two times I have gone to KFC they forgot to put my green beans in the bag and I'm still pissed about it.

Aside from that, this wedding sounds interesting. Is she the type to get offended if you bring some chips/snacks?

  • So she can afford a brunch the following day so people can watch her open gifts?  I'd rather put that money towards the reception the night before and skip the gift opening altogether.

<div>And now I somehow want mac and cheese tacos. With bacon. I don't know if that would be gross or amazing. </div>

  • Now I want KFC for dinner!

BK- I would just make sure I had something to tide me over. And let it go, she obviously doesn't care how this looks. Doesn't she have parents that know better?

  • I want to know where in MN she is getting married :)  But I understand you wouldn't want to post that. PM me if you have a second.

Also- Popcorn chicken at KFC and biscuits are so tasty! But yes, why not grab KFC to go any have it somewhere else?
  • Girlie, I'm thinking we're paying our own way at the brunch.  Just a guess.  She's also planning on wearing flip flops because when she started looking (IN JANUARY), she couldn't find silver flat sandals for under $75.  Imagine that.

Brandi- I don't think she'll be offended.  Her mom might though.

    Dumdum- Good idea.
  • I think it's gonna be hot as hell this weekend, too.

  • KD, that's the first time anyone has ever accused me of making sense, so thanks.  :)

Oh, so if you're invited to this brunch you BYOB (buy your own brunch) to boot?  Jesus, Mary and Joseph, this girl is breaking new records here.

  • KD- Her dad's been gone for 13 years (cancer).  But her mom, as well as her dad's family are white trash.  My aunt used to be so clever and amazing.  When she was broke, back in the days of VCRs, she taped Yankee Doodle Dandy, The Sting and Attack of the Killer Tomatoes for us.  She sat there and manually stopped and started the recording to not get the commercials from the TV.  She then sent it to us with a box of candy and some "trash" to throw on the floor so we could have an "authentic movie theatre experience."  She wrote a great blurb about each movie.  When I graduated HS (a lifetime ago), she got me a booklight that was a pane of glass that had a light that shone through it that you laid on top of the book.  It came in so handy.  She's not like that anymore.  It's like all the fun and cleverness has gotten sucked out of her.  It makes me kind of sad.
  • Psh, what's the KFC going to do if you bring wine?

I wouldn't worry about bringing food, let her deal with how things work out.

I'd have to dump H, another Aunt, a great aunt and my parents.  But, it's doable, right?

  • I am a little jelous but only because the town I live in doesn't have a KFC.

I wouldn't bring food, as another poster has said, I wouldn't want people to think I had anything to do with the planning...
  • I'd like some montary gifts.  Could I email y'all to get this going?  kthanx.

There is an all-you-can-eat KFC BUFFET in eastern Kansas/Western Missouri (I forget exactly where).  It's truly shangri-la.  Well, if they let me bring my wine in it would be shangri-la.  So I guess it's just awesome.

Sounds Klassy, BK.  I do love a white trash wedding.  Please to report back with the results.

  • I can't even remember the last time I had KFC.  Hmm.  Maybe the last 4th of July I spent with my fam at the DL lake.  It's been years now.

You know which place makes me barfy?  Golden Corral.  Just driving past it on my way to work makes me want to ralph my breakfast all of my steering wheel.

  • My Aunt here in Denver is aghast.  She said to me, "Do you know why KFC is served in a bucket? So that after you eat, you have something to puke into."

She also said my great-aunt about popped a vein when she saw the registry info and the money beg in the invitation.

Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of Buffets anyway, but this one is gross. I have no idea who picked there nose (and we've verified people do this!) and touched the spoon/food before I got there. I'll take my chances with one kitchen worker.
