1st Anniversary gifts

What do you guys think of going with the traditional anniversary gifts by year, like the 1st year being paper, etc. Do you give gifts at all? Do you do something different--big or small? A night out or an actual gift? Is all of this stupid?

J just wants to have the weekend to ourselves to hang out, etc. which we are doing--we got a suite at the hotel we got married at and are gonna have dinner, see the Christmas lights, etc. downtown. I was trying to talk him into doing some goofy little thing with the paper as well, but he doesn't want to.

Whatcha got? What have you done/will you do for your 1st anniversary?

Re: 1st Anniversary gifts

  • Well... for our 1st anniversary we were in NY for H's grandmother's funeral. It was... something. We got room service at the hotel where we were staying, but that was about it. We just ended up writing each other a nice note in a card and going out to dinner when we got home.
  • We got eachother tickets to a concert we were excited to see, so paper!
  • We didnt follow it for our 2nd anniversary, I dont think we got eachother gifts this year but we went out for dinner.
  • yeah see I think it's cute too! He just doesn't get it.
I was gonna surprise him with Bulls/Heat tickets, but they sold out before they were on sale, and if I went to a broker I'd be giving my right arm. I might still do something. we'll see.

  • Ben is a total sucker for crap like this so I don't think I'll have any trouble getting him on board :)

  • It was our second Ann. yesterday. My H surprised me with tickets! He also bought me a "The Human Body" puzzle when we went to B&N because I am a science nerd. We went out to eat and saw SAW 3D. So no we don't do traditional gifts.

  • We bought a house for our 1st anniversary and moved in the weekend of our anniversary. Best present ever :)

  • A friend of mine got her husband stocks... sounds weird... but that was her "paper".  I thought that it was kind of a cool idea.
  • We're doing the traditional gifts for at least part of the anniversary presents each year.  We love us some traditions.

For our first anniversary, I got him cookbooks from places we'd gone for big dates (1st date, 6 month, etc.).  He made me a book on blurb.com with photos and some really sweet sentiments.  I cried quite a bit.  For the nontraditional part of my gift, he got me a necklack from Tiffany.
  • I love the idea of traditional gifts. Even something like a framed photo or album counts as "paper." But hey, any excuse to go out to dinner, too.

  • I have no clue what to do for our 2nd anniversary. I'm leaning towards B-pics though.
  • I created an album for J to store all of his grandfathers' Liverpool Soccer programs from the 60s-80s, so that was paper. He threw a big party with a band and a magician for us, which ended with a gigantic bar tab (he picked up the band's tab), also paper. :)
  • Our anniversary will just replace his birthday as his annual blowjob day.
