Ladies - I am a lurker on this board for the pure sh**s and giggles I get from it, but didn't have anything remotely interesting to comment on yet.
This morning it occurred to me: am I the only bride who is totally boycotting DIY stuff with a passion?? We are buying/ordering/renting it all, every single piece of paper, linen, decoration, etc. Not only is ourwedding 1,500 miles away -- so it makes no sense to make things that I will then have to ship at prohibitive cost -- but I am the least crafty person you will ever meet. Ever. I can barely stick photos in albums. There will be no table number collages, no hand-carved napkin rings, no self-designed ceremony programs on a clever software at home computer, no hand-appliqued rosettes, no hemstitched table runners. We're not even doing seating charts since it is a casual cocktail reception with heavy apps. I enjoy picking out everything, and I am very particular about colors, telling people what to deliver, what to print, and what it should look all look like. But I plan to show up with my dress, shoes, veil and suitcase with lingerie and that's about it. There will be lots of flowers, food and alcohol. Maybe a guestbook. My FMIL keeps asking what we are making "on our own." Umm. We're signing the checks. But I feel a little guilty and like my wedding will be less special/cute/charming. Am I a terrible bride? I just don't see how it makes financial sense to do stuff that we'll have to tote or ship.
