Thoughts on anti-war recruiters in schools

My MIL is up in arms about THIS issue.

The Portland school board voted unanimously to allow anti-war groups to have the same access as military recruiters for things like career fairs. Similar policies are in place in San Francisco and Seattle.

Some of the military recruiters are saying this doesn't matter, because the same students who wanted to join the military are going to join regardless of this measure.

Some people also say it's a good idea to show students other options.

However, this seems to apply only to the military in my eyes, because at a career fair there are colleges, vets, police officers, etc. yet no one is coming in as being anti-college, vets, police officers. I think saying that this gives students an option other than the military is not true, because they have already seen this option.

MIL is upset because she comes from a strong military family. My H's dad was in the Navy, BIL is in the Army, etc. She sees it as being ungrateful for what they have done. I can see her point, but one of the things they fight for is freedom of speech, and this measure is promoting that.

Anyway, curious about your thoughts on this topic.
