We're going on Thursday to apply for our CU license. our town is by appointment only. They do not answer the phone, ever. So I left a message this morning and this lady Mary calls me back. Here's how the conversation went down:
Mary: "You said civil license on your message, you mean marriage license?"
Me: "No, civil union license."
Mary: "Civil Union..." (long pause) "What's that, like same sex?"
Me: "Yes, that's correct."
Mary: "Oooooooh, I've never done one of those before. I think I'm doing one later this month but not yet. What do you need to do?"
Me: "I think it's the same form for the marriage license, I just check off another box?"
Mary: "Oh ok, did you research this?"
At this point I'm trying not to laugh at the woman. I realize we life in a small municipality, but the CU law wasn't passed yesterday. She was very sweet, but clearly bewildered by my need for a CU license, it was like I just re-invented the wheel for her.
In other news, we booked out honeymoon last night, we're the most awesome procrastinators ever. HOW ARE THERE ONLY 25 DAYS?? Sorry the yelling was necessary. Someone throw me an extra week, or at least a couple days?
