Snarky Brides

It's times like these...

that make me believe I'm a good parent.

May 13yr old daughter, who btw is dressed like a mini Madonna on a sparkly tutu and t-shirt, saw a commercial with Snooki in it.

"Mommy, is that Snooki from the Jersey shore? She scares me, I would never want to be like her. I don't know why so many people at school like her, or that show"

I thank God she doesn't want to be like them.

Anyone else have these moments when a kid says something and you think "this kid just might make it through being a teen and come out ok"

  • One of my residents at work pulled me aside when she was having a rough week and she told me "I wanted to talk to you because I realize that you're ALWAYS right."  That's when I knew all was right in the world.

  • Good for your daughter. That would make me happy, too.

I'm not quite that far along in my parenting journey, but I did get complimented the other day because Emerson says/signs "please" for things and he's not even 2.

  • It's nice to finally have someone confirm what you have always believed huh? My friends say this after a breakup that I told them was coming. I say, Yay I was right, will you listen next time. They usually say yes but never actually listen.

I know, I held it against her for a long time afterward.  "Hey, remember that one time when you told me that you realized I was always right?  Yeah?  Well guess what?  This time isn't any different.  Now go do it!"

The basics become the foundation for everything. If he says please so regularly it means you are doing something right.

Is he signing for hearing reason or because you taught him to communicate before speaking.

  • Oh, and also?  I'm so very glad your daughter doesn't want to be Snooki.  She scares me.  Good work.

No, he's not deaf. Some of my friends who have slightly older chlidren taught their babies to sign so that could communicate before they talk, like, YIO said. I decided to try it and It's really cool, actually. He picked it up pretty quickly. He can say most of the words now, but he still signs them, too.

*edited because it didn't make much sense.

Polite children make me smile. Yesterday we were out to eat, and DS said "thank you" everytime our waitress came to our table. It was so sweet.

Oh gosh. Sorry. I have no idea why I read "DS" as daughter.

How cute, though. I like that name.

[QUOTE]I love seeing small children that can sign. Just don't let him forget the signs as he grows up, it will be useful when he grows up. I can't tell you how many times I could have used sign languse to communicate with my clients.

<div>This :) What most people don't realize though, is that ASL is actually a very different language from English.  It has a totally different grammar/sentence structure, facial expressions change the meaning of things, etc.  So if your son wants to continue with it when he gets older, I highly recommend trying to find an ASL class he can take to learn all of that. </div><div>

  • Thanks. That's a great suggestion. I would love for him to keep going with it. I should take classes, too. My knowledge is limited to the baby signs books I have.

Ha, no worries. I had to go back and make sure I actually said "DS". It's been a long day. Thanks. H had a lot of input for a name. He is big into hunting and fishing so he insisted on Hunter. I put up a fight for a while, but in the end he won.

Thanks, That's why it makes me feel like a good parent. I always talk about how those people try too hard and don't need to act or dress like that. I also comment on how slutty it is to get undressed in front of anyone and act like everyone else to be liked.

  • I love polite kids.

My little brother has an awesome vocabulary for his age (7). I love his syntax as well. I took him to the doctor this week. She needed to swab his throat. He said, "it causes me pain." Awesome sentence 7 year old!

  • This is the picture I had seen, yes it's funny to us adults but it shows kids that this trash is popular, amusing and it is ok to act like that....

  • That's just wrong. No little kid should be allowed to dress like that EVER.
