Re: Steph come here!

  • it's a gorgeous ring... I think its kind of sweet. Diana is NOT a favorite of the queen so this seems more like it was his decision to give it to her. His mother was such a positive figure in England and around the world. I think it shows some independence from the Queen. I am NOT a crazy royal watcher... I have always just been fascinated by these two! I can't help it... it's crazy.

</div><div>hehe. I am here to sway. I didn't even think of it as a divorce ring. I just like this story so much. Everything they did is against the Queen really. They lived together, they waited years, they did the announcement from Clarence house (his father's house) rather than from the Queen's office. I just think its interesting. It's a nice tribute to Diana.</div><div>

  • Times are tough. I hear they're going to move into Charles and Camilla's garage apartment after the wedding.

  • I always loved her ring because it was so different. I think I'd see it as more of an heirloom than a "doom" thing.

She'll probably be given a tiara or crown from the queen to wear for the wedding.

It's one of the reasons I chose sapphires for my ering and wedding band.

I was floored and devastated for Fi grandmother because she found out about it in front of me....I just think passing heirlooms is bad ...

</div><div>Do you think the royal family doesn't have a solid agreement in place to guarantee they get back that ring if something happens? I mean really. It's the royal family. I guarantee you there are protections in place. </div>

<div>um, ok.  Except, well, this is the British monarchy, not your fi's grandma.  I'm guessing they could get it back if they needed to.</div>

  • I think any talk about "cursed rings" is just silly.  Diana and Charles got married when she was 20 and he was 31  - significant age difference!  They had been dating less than a year when they got engaged.  He felt pressure to get married by the Queen.  Clearly it wasn't the ring that set the marriage down a bad path - they had a lot against them from the beginning!

Anyway, I think it's really sweet that he gave Kate his mother's ring.  And they've both sort of thumbed their nose at tradition - his father even made some comment about how it was about time they got engaged because they've been "practicing long enough".  They live together, they've dated for years, they almost certainly are NOT virgins.

And while I agree that heirlooms can be a dangerous thing to give (thus why my Mom gave me her great-grandmother's ring instead of my brother - she said, "If some b*tch breaks his heart, at least she can't keep my grandmother's ring!"), I think the danger here is negligible.  If they broke up and she kept the ring, it would be quite the public controversy.
