Snarky Brides

If you were at a pig roast party...

What would you expect to be eating?  We have a little over 2 months before our AHR, and I just realized we have absolutely NOTHING planned for it.  Only that it's at our house.  And that we want it to be a Hawaiian theme, kinda sorta like.

So, considering it's going to be Oct 9 in MN, mostly outside, I need ideas for what to make.  I've got a roast pig (obviously) on the list, brats, burgers, baked beans, pineapple coleslaw, potato salad, fruit salad, fresh fruit, veggies and dip, cupcakes and bars.

Re: If you were at a pig roast party...

  • chips and pasta salad? It sounds like you're list is pretty complete.

  • Oh yeah, chips and salsa I have tons of from my canning escapade last year, forgot about that.  Good call.
  • Grilled pineapple! And stuffing...because there aren't enough special occasions that serve stuffing!

I agree on pasta salad. Everything is better when you have pasta salad.
  • Ooh, grilled pineapple, hadn't thought of that either!  Sounds yummy.

For drinks we'll probably have beer and wine, rum, vodka, brandy and whisky, with mixers.
  • your spread sounds pretty good.  grilled pineapple would be great.  and maybe corn?

  • veggie kabobs - cherry tomato, bell pepper slices, pineapple, pearl onions and mushrooms
  • This is what we've served:
baked potatoes, wrap them in foil and bake them in same pit pig is being roasted in.

You can also grill corn on the cob or if you also have kitchen access, steam it.

Baked beans for a crowd is very easy.

Potatoe salad (yes, that's two potatoes dishes)

Cole slaw is easy for a crowd

    Garlic bread

    Relish trays

Tossed salad for a crowd is very easy

  • Having a Hawaiian theme in MN doesn't make sense to me.

You should consider that many people find pig roasts to be revolting. Nothing like having your wedding photos taken besides a dead pig.
  • Anna, would kebabs keep in a chafing dish well?  If we did them earlier in the day?
