Dog Question

This may be a dumb question, but for those of you that have male dogs, how did he act after being fixed?  That is at the top of our agenda for our chihuahua after the wedding and I just kind of want to be prepared.  When we had our female great dane fixed she was lethargic for a day or two then back to normal.  But she was also a puppy - Sebastian is almost 2.  We're doing it for a lot of reasons, the main one being that the vet said it would lessen his chances of getting cancer.  I guess I'm just wondering if they experience attitude changes and that sort of thing since we have two other dogs.  The vet of course gives us an entire list of possible things but I'm interested in what others have experienced first hand.

Re: Dog Question

  • I have a female that I fixed at 7 years old. She had 2 litters. She was out of it for a few days but went right back to normal. But she did stop humping people. I highly recommend it.

  • I dont' have much to offer. We got our dog already fixed from the Human Society.  They had just done the surgery the night before though, and he was fine. We didn't really have anything to compare it to, though.

He's only tried humping a few times, and it's just mimicking other dogs at the park.
  • My parent's dog was neutered and he was only lethargic for a couple of days. He was back to normal quickly with zero personality or health changes.

  • Ringo (in my sig) got fixed at age 2.. he was lethargic for a day but then went right back to himself. The only thing that changed is that he no longer humps every female dog he sees!
