SB Book Club

People have mentioned starting an SB book club.  Is that something people are interested in?

Re: SB Book Club

  • I am, obviously. I think it's time I expanded outwards from the sci/fi and fantasy books.
  • Ooh, that sounds fun. I would be interested.
  • I'd be interested too.
  • Are we thinking here or on Goodreads?

  • YES!

I'm in one with two of the NJ KNotties, but it's hard to get ppl involved.  I want to be part of a bigger book club with a bunch of viewpoints.
  • I check here a lot more often tbh.
  • I don't know how it works on Goodreads since I only recently joined, but I'd think the setup would be better for it over there.
  • Okay, we need to decide on a book and a discussion date.  I think Fridays for discussion dates?

Ditto. Although GoodReads would be a good jumping off point.
  • Here=better.  Fridays sound good.  It seems like a lot of people are around sinc ethye don't feel like doing too much after work.
  • Are you in real book clubs that meet/talk regularly?  How does the discussion work?  Are there assigned questions?  I've never done a real book club.

  • NJ kNottie one meets IRL, but it's only me and two other girls.  I started it on my local board, but only a few ppl followed through.

We take turns picking the book and a restaurant.  Last time, the book we chose has book club questions in the back.  Otherwise, whoever chooses the book finds questions.  We mainly just had an open discussion though.  It was a lot of fun.
  • I'm interested, and I've never done a book club before.
  • I bet we can find good book/question suggestions via our best friend, Google.

What kind of books do we want to read? Like, real, legit literature?

<div>I think if you open it up with, "What did you think? Did you like it?" you will see that it sparks a lot of conversation and people will question and debate from there. Every book club I've been in is like this and has a super smart leader that thinks of a few beforehand or as the meeting goes, either way.</div>

<div>Oh god, I hate that book so much. Which is funny because I love Perks of being a Wallflower and Go Ask Alice. And everyone I know loves it :P</div>

  • I have a pdf of it as well.

  • So we're starting with the second book in the trilogy?
  • I'm short on funds to purchase the book. Imagine how many books I could buy with the money for a E-Reader! I wish though, seriously.. I would consider myself seriously spoiled if I got one of those.

Are they computer accessible? Could I get the PDF, and read on the comp?
  • Are we really gonna have the first book be #2 in a series or should I just read Girl with The Dragon Tattoo to keep up?

  • Eh...? Oh.  Well.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo then.  Way to know how it works, Pirategal.

  • Do you think M&M would make a sticky of the details for us?

  • Are we having the discussion here or on another site?
  • I just thought maybe I'd missed where everyone else had already read Dragon Tattoo, and I was going to say I'd finish reading it and then move straight to the second one.

My paperback copy was $8 new at B&N.  I bet it could be found used fairly easily.
  • Send me a pm with your email, Bree.
