Snarky Brides

Having a happy saturday?

I am here for a quick second. I bought this thing to charge my battery on my computer so I don't need to plug my cord into the little power hole...it seems to be working.

I have the annual family party today and tomorrow my mom might take me out for my birthday. Its been so long since I have been on here I hope you ladies are all doing well and are having a good weekend. Im so bummed I missed Halloween on here, I bet everyone had awesome costumes!

How do you get rid of fleas when flea medicine doesn't seem to be working?
What are you cooking for Thanksgiving?

Re: Having a happy saturday?

• My Saturday is pretty darn spiffy thus far. Thanks for asking!

Thanksgiving shall be a festival devoted to excess this year!(who am i kidding? every year)

Here's my menu at the moment, some dinner, some hors d'oeuvres:

*Garlic butter infused turkey with crispy skin
*Stuffing/Dressing - Sage, sausage and portabella mushroom stuffing
*Green bean casserole - the classic for my sister
*Corn - Roxy's scalloped corn recipe
*Mashed potatoes & gravy - creamy and slightly garlic cheese infused
*candied yams - topped with oodles of brown sugar, spices and marshmallow
*Sweet butter rolls
*Salad with a cranberry vinegarette
*macaroni and cheese

*veggie platter with dip
*bacon-cheddar deviled eggs
*Norwegian shrimp sandwiches
*Spiced cranberry cider
*Pumpkin pie
*Caramel apple pie
• Woahhh! That sounds so good Im almost drooling.

Yams and corn are my favorite part of Thanksgiving. The leftover turkey sandwiches are good too. A little mayo, some turkey and salt and pepper make the end of November blissful.

• Hi y'all. I'm exhausted, but I have so much to do its not even funny. I had almost every final wedding appointment yesterday, and ended the day with b-pics. Went to bootcamp this morning and now I am so exhausted I don't want to move.

B-pics were fun, but they were like yoga in stilettos. Very challenging! Hair, makeup and dress appointments were awesome as well.

I don't know what we'll have for Thanksgiving. FI's groomswoman will be cooking at her sister's house here in town, since the wedding is on that Saturday. From what I saw on facebook from her trial run, there will be turkey and popovers. We will probably spend that afternoon bagging all the cookies she made for favors for us. She rocks.

I love turkey and cranberry too. Alas, I have a turkey allergy, so i'll probably be vegetarian this T-giving. I wouldn't want to tempt my insides so close to the wedding.

• Dear Anna, make 1 extra portion and send to my house please.

My whole body hurts. I just spent 5 hours doing winter landscaping and everything hurts. I put in about 25 Rose of Sharon, 15 Burning Bushes, 10 winter mums and 8 Ajuga plants. Tomorrow I still have to put in the tulips, irises and lillies.

i'm pretty sure I'll have more than 1 extra portion. In fact, i'm counting on it for leftovers.

i planted bulbs last fall and was hurting for days after. my sympathies ;)
• Try a flea bath. Ask your vet for the special shampoo used to target fleas. Is it for a cat? We get really bad fleas in the beginning of spring and no amount of medicine keeps them off of Whisky. So we bathe him, then while he's still wet comb through his fur (especially the lower stomach area) and pull off the remaining fleas with tweezers. Also, if you catch them on you, don't just wash them down the drain. It doesn't kill them. We keep a glass of soapy water and srown them, since they can't swim through the soap.

Other than that, I had a great Saturday. I spent time with my mom at the fair, and now H and I are thinking about going to see tne movie Red.

Ditto that. Last time Demon had fleas I gave her a Frontline spot treatment (the monthly one), then just combed through her fur and drowned all the fleas in soapy water. Also make sure to vacuum really well and throw away the bag if you have one. If you have a canister vacuum put some flea powder on the floor then vacuum it up so they die in the vacuum.
• I'll be coming over to crash your thanksgiving dinner Anna, just an fyi. Don't mind me, I'll be parked in the kitchen corner.

I went and stocked up on spices at the spice store, paid some bills, got a health spending account going for us, now trying to decide what I want to bake with my cute mini cakelet pan. Working on finding a pumpkin cake recipe and a good glaze.

Get on I-90, drive west. exit at Sioux Falls. Easy enough!

i've used this recipe with success in the past: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Pumpkin-Cake-III/Detail.aspx

really good with just a standard powdered sugar and milk glaze! Especially if you add a bit of pumpkin pie spice to it.

Yep, you're not too from a friend of mine that lives down by Worthington.

I found this one too. http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Holiday-Pumpkin-Cake-with-Rum-Cream-Cheese-Glaze/Detail.aspx

ETA: The one you posted was actually the other one I was going to use. Maybe I'll use the rum cream cheese glaze on that one. Hmmm...

• Anna - my FI and I are doing Thanksgiving at our home for the first time ever! SUPER excited! and your menu makes me feel down that we just at planning LOL. BTW what's for dessert???

• Quick Anna, what's your experience with the baker's cooking spray, with the flour in it? This is the ridiculously cute pan I'm cooking cakelets in http://www.williams-sonoma.com/products/fall-icon-cakelet-pan/?pkey=cbakeware-thanksgiving

i wasn't quick enough, I bet.

I don't like it. Sometimes it leaves a residue on the cake that's not so pretty
• Okay good, then it's a good thing I opted to skip it then. Buying two different cans of cooking spray seemed silly, when I'm perfectly capable of flouring myself.
• I won't lie, it's going to be a rough holiday season without flour. My coworker learned how to make Macaroons though so I get to eat those while everyone else gets cupcakes :)

I have not yet attempted baking sans wheat flour yet but I did make the gluten free brownies from Betty Crocker (I think that is who made it anyway) and it was pretty good! The batter looked kinda grainy going in but they were fine texture and taste wise when I took them out.
• Thanks for the flea advice. Sorry im late I had to leave. I was thinking flea shampoo thing too. I hate fleas, every time I try to grab them they jump away! I need to work on my reflexes.

• I looove the BC GF brownies (and made some last night).

GF pizza crust is also amazing. It's just a bit weird to prepare because it has the consistency of cake batter and then just kind of forms into the shape of the pan it's made in. But then it's sooo good.
