WR - Anyone Doing A Christmas Wedding?

I know-a wedding related post on SB, it's shocking.

Just when we thought we were done with weddings for a long while, H's niece told us last night that she got engaged this week, and they are having the wedding on Christmas Eve 2011. Oh, and this old woman was asked to be a bridesmaid (she said "I don't expect you to do a damn thing, just show up in the dress I pick out and enjoy the day with me-bless her heart!!!!).

We were surprised-they have a two year old and live together but always said they had no interest in marriage because it is "just a piece of paper" - well something changed obviously and we are really happy they are getting married.

I think Christmas Eve in Minneapolis is a brave choice, we entertained the thought briefly but feared snowstorms. They are planning a smallish guest list, about 75 people but from what I have seen those lists have a way of growing.

Anyway, just curious as to if anyone around here is doing the Christmas wedding thing?

  • A WR post? I'm melting...meltingggg....
  • I've been to a wedding the weekend before Xmas but not actually on Christmas eve. It was really pretty and she didn't even hardly have to decorate!

  • Ugh, I hate the snow enough as it is.  Though, I think that a really intimate, evening (maybe candlelight ceremony?) ceremony on Christmas Eve would be beautiful.  And that's one way to guarantee snow for Christmas ;)

I think I'd be irritated to be invited to a Christmas wedding for someone I wasn't super close to, though.

  • I think the idea is really pretty, but I'd only be inviting those I would normally spend the holiday with.

  • Didn't Anna have a Christmas-ey wedding?  Or am I just imagining that?
Holy Crap. We survived the first year!

  • A Christmas Eve wedding with an intimate guest list sounds just awesome!  I believe this is what my parents originally wanted.

Of course, if I wasn't family or in the area already for Christmas, I wouldn't be able to go.  Now, since it's getting closer to Christmas, I'm a little jealous of this idea.  But not jealous enough to deal with cold, snow, and unpredictable weather.  The ocean and sun does sound nice, too :)

Yep. I was just looking at her pics the other day on FB. Very pretty. Red and green everywhere. I loved it!
And the whole time, my future husband was in the room...... image image
  • I told my mom about it and she acted like the date was somehow rude - I told her that those who wanted to come would be there and the groom has a large family so I think they are planning to invite mostly family. The old schoolers (my mom is 75) pretty much seem to think that unless your wedding is on a Saturday sometime between May 15 and October  15 (in MN anyway) and NEVER on a holiday weekend, you are out of line and deserve a lump of coal for a wedding gift. I think it is funny, actually.

They are talking about having it at her Dad's enormous house. I think decorated for the holidays it would be beautiful.
  • I'm with J--I might be irritated if it were a friend, only because FI and I have a hard enough time choosing where to spend the holiday (since he hardly ever sees his family, we go there, but i'm an only child, so we like to be with mom, too).  If it were someone I regularly spend the holidays with, I think a Christmas Eve wedding would be beautiful.

But it seems like they're planning on mainly family anyway, so it seems really nice to me.
  • I think a Christmas wedding would be really neat and beautiful, but I probably wouldn't go unless it was for a close family member. We spend Christmas Eve with my dad and grandparents, and since I don't get to see them that often, I wouldn't be willing to give up that time for a wedding.

Christmassy but not on Christmas.  Dec. 12th.
  • I'm having a Christmas-y wedding. December 10. We didn't want it too close to Christmas b/c I'd rather not make people travel to the wedding if they've already got family plans.

  • Well, she is a whole year out so I think if she catches to much flack on the date she would consider changing it.

December 12 or something does sound a little more convenient but she will do what she will do.
