Minor vent...from Miss to Mrs.

  • It's also born into. I only recognize "true" doctors as those who were born into the Dr. Dynasty. Only they can wear the crown.

"cool......insult my size 2 body or my natural brown hair...or the fact that my parents own a country club, I have no budget for a wedding, and I have horses. I really dont care. Its better then having roots." ~ futurepivko
  • I do like the Dr. and Mr. construction. I've also teased FI about how after I get my degree, I'm going to be the doctor and he's going to be the nurse. But for some reason, he doesn't like it when I suggest that he may be a naughty nurse. :)

Something that I'm never going to forget is when the Bidens were announced at the inauguration luncheon, and they were announced as "Vice President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. and Dr. Jill Biden." It made me happy. :)

Wouldn't it be nice to live together in the kind of world where we belong?
  • That is very cool about the Bidens, Sarah! At my wedding, we had H's stepdad announced into the reception as "Dr. [H's Stepdad]" because he has his PhD in Anthropology. And I had just had a bunch of my classmates graduate on time with their PsyD's, so I put "Dr." on all their escort cards as a fun little way to celebrate their acheivement. I think weddings and formal events are a fine time to do that anyway.

So, is it the uniform that he doesn't like about being a naughty nurse? I've heard those fishnets can be a bitch to keep pulled up. ;)

  • Yeah, I think he finds the uniform too revealing, which is strange considering how much time he spends wearing spandex. ;)

[QUOTE]To the best of my knowledge, phd's aren't addressed as dr. in social settings, so they're not actually being rude.

Yeah, I don't mean disrespect since a PhD is a huge accomplisment, but I don't know any PhDs who actually make people refer to them as Dr.  It is more appropriate for MDs then if you have a doctorate in say, history.  I actually tend to make fun of people who insist on being called Dr. when they have a PhD in liberal arts.  It is just so pretentious, like you have to remind people that you are smarter than them.

Yeah - this.   There are a lot of prestigious professional degrees or titles out there.  However in social settings, you don't refer to someone as their professional title with few exceptoins.
