Unemployed person panic: Tell me this isn't a big deal

I just applied for 4 jobs with the same company and realized after I clicked submit 4 times that the version of my resume I submitted has no references on it and there was not a separate references field. Please tell me this doesn't matter.

They can contact you for references if they need them. No biggie. I remember reading something that said to just put available upon request anyways.

ETA: You did have your contact info on there, didn't you? =P
  • It doesn't matter.
You have kick ass library skillz.

  • It shouldnt matter, they will ask you for them when/if they need them.
  • I've never had my references checked, but one time a potential employer did ask me to sumbit them after I submitted my resume. I think you're fine.

I hope something works out for you!
  • Shouldn't matter, references usually come into play when you interview. No worries.

That's really sweet, but if that's all I needed I would have 16 job offers right now because that's the number of jobs I've applied to since September 1.  I don't want to graduate and not have a job lined up. <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-cry.gif" border="0" alt="Cry" title="Cry" />

    Eh you'll be fine.

If not, I'll go after them with laser beams.

  • Don't get discouraged! You'll do great!

I applied for about 75 jobs right before I graduated, but dammit I got a job.
  • 75?  Holy crap!  That makes my stomach hurt.  I'm feeling very high stress about this whole thing.

  • Er, no. I mean, I only applied for 4. Feel better? No? I'm sending you chocolate and booze, of your choice.

Don't stress about it, it takes time. The job market blows right now. Figure for every 15-20 jobs you apply to, you'll get 1 call for an interview, and for every 5-15 interviews 1 job offer. It's a rat race. Just keep plugging along, you'll find something.

Most were within an hour radius and a few were kind of longshots at places across the country. The job I was offered was only about 20 minutes from my house, but after 3 months, I was offered a job at another company in my field and I took that, but it's an hour commute. The drive sucks but I love this job.
  • I always just say references are available upon request. I feel like if they want me, then they can get serious about bothering people about me.
  • It doesn't matter. They'll get them if they need them. Employers rarely check them unless they are already talking to you first. Good luck with the jobby jobs!

Same here, and I think it's the best way to go. Don't offer up all that info if it's not required at this point. Good luck!
