Snarky Brides

huh.

So smug knocked up with twins SIL has a scheduled C-section for July 25th.

Real question--how does one end up with a scheduled c-section?  I know it's twins, but personally I'd be pissed.  I'd probably call a doula or something and schedule a secret surgery-less birth out in the woods.

I read an article about c-sections last night and cried and hyperventilated and ended up awake for 2 more hours.

Sorry for all the overshare.  I'm drinking for the first time tonight since surgery.  I'm a lightweight and I like it.

Re: huh.

  • I'm not sure I'd want to rapid-fire two babies out of my vag in the woods, though. Surgery sounds pretty good in that scenario.
  • Hahaha aww Heels. They schedule the c section if they think natural birth could be high risk

All this makes me think of is on gilmore girls when lukes sister named her kid "doula". So weird!
  • It must be the way the twins are positioned.

C-sections scare the shiit out of me, even in suposded "high risk."
  • Bwahahaha SIL is being thuper thecret about her twins' names.  I hope it's because she's going to name one Doula and not because she stole Caroline from me, because I'd hate to beat her azz after her scheduled c-section.
  • Why do c-sections freak you out so much, Heels?

  • A lot of multiple births are scheduled C-sections, I think.  Like PPs said, it usually has to do with high-risk pregnancies.  It's easier to "control" that element than natural childbirth.  There's a lot that can go wrong in the process, especially with twins.

  • C sections don't scare me too much. The thing I'm most scared about in child birth (ha! I typed "bitch" the first time) is the Epidural andddd having an IV in my hand.
I dont mind shots but a needle thats staying in my hand? not cool.
  • I'm with Roxy, epidurals freak me out.

They freak(ed) me out too.  Until I had one.  Best. Invention. EVER.

ETA:  I was referring to epidurals, not c-sections

I think childbirth should be a surprise. I would be 100% ok with not knowing the sex or date of birth. Im old fashioned like that.
  • Hahaha. Really, Tide?

  • Well, I'm really freaked out by blood.  I mean terrified.  And one of my friends told me that her husband, who was in medical school, said that the time during his residency when he watched a c-section was the most blood he has ever seen.  So yeah.  I mean, you're conscious for the whole thing and they cut you open  . . . seems pretty traumatic.

Roxy, I was terrified of IVs too until my surgery.  The IV is the shizzle.  They gave me so much good stuff through that IV, I very quickly forgot there was a needle perpetually in my vein.  I'm a fan.

You know what scares me more than a needle in my back?  19 hours of unmedicated labor.  And the word "pitocin."

    Needle, party for one, please.

  • I don't want to know the sex when we have kids either, but my reason is really selfish--so people don't buy me clothes and random pink or blue stuff I don't need and didn't ask for and instead buy what we register for.

  • Picotin gives me the heeby jeebies too.  It was in that article I was reading that freaked me out so much.
  • They have the magic sheet though, Heels.

Tide, that's hilarious. You have a good point. I think I would succumb as well.

  • I would happily have given the anesthesiologist annnnnything for the joy of having an epidural.  Magical.
  • I want to know th sex until we have one of each then I can be surprised.
I do not want to know the DOB. If they make me schedule it I'm going to have family member vote on a random day and we will pick it out of a hat so its as "by chance" as possible.

I would prefer yelllow, green or orange baby stuff, as opposed to blue and pink. I want a sexless baby until it comes out to ensure I dont get pink anything.
  • Nebb - you'd be surprised how much you realize you ACTUALLY like pink after you have a daughter.  I was very anti-pink before Taryn was born.  The first time I dressed her in a non gender specific color, everyone referred to her as a boy.  Pink and purple it is!

  • Copy that, Nebb.

And copy anyone and everyone on the epidural.
  • Tide- thats exactly how it was with my Brother and SIL. They flat out refused anything pink and made a huuuuge deal about not wanting pink. What does she wear now? Pink. My borther finally said "She just looks so damn cute in pink"
They're very like heavy metal, all in black, piercings types too.

I actually feel the same way, kind of. I feel like a monster for it, but I absolutely detest the jammies and bibs with "Daddy's Little Girl" or "Grandpa's Princess" on them.

In general, if you can't read, I don't think you should have writing on your clothes, though.

ETA: I'm totally anti-"girls in pink/boys in blue" ... but I'd really rather pick out my own gender-specific clothes once the baby is here.

Im still young, so I figure we have tons of time. Im really gung ho on paying off debt, partly so we can buy a house and partly because we can eventually afford a kid. I just see how people with kids interact with them and I want that.
