Hey, Missy: here's a picture that might make you happy

Re: Hey, Missy: here's a picture that might make you happy

  • I'm not Missy, but cute! Is he totally excited?
  • Is that a Boy Scout uniform that I see?

Yes, yes, Tide it is.  He's totally excited and has been to a few den meetings and a pack meeting.  He got his pinewood derby kit yesterday.
  • He looks really excited, OWN.  Are you feeling more comfortable about him joining?

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

  • He is going to whittle so many awesome things out of wood and soap.

Are you going to be a den mother?

  • Awww.  I bet he's excited!  I remember the BSA dilemma from this summer.

  • DH is really excited that we're having a son, so that he can do the Boy Scout thing with him.  Girl scouts isn't really the same (if anything, we'd probably have the girls joib 4H, if they wanted to)

  • Aww, I remember reading the dilemma thread - I think it was a dead thread by the time I go to it.

I'm going to be going through the same thing a few years down the line, and it will be complicated by the fact that FI was a boy scout.

Wouldn't it be nice to live together in the kind of world where we belong?
  • I've come around, obviously.  I maintain my objections to BSA policy, but (close your eyes, Missy) I kind of see it as us getting the good stuff out of BSA while just ignoring the stuff we hate.

Our local dens have at least one gay den mother and there is at least one boy with 2 dads in our pack.  So I can take the BSA as filtered through the cultural bubble of Madison, WI.  And my son loves it.  It's good for him.

That's a good way too look at it.  I'm glad he's enjoying it.

Amen to that one! I wanted to be a boyscout so bad because they actually got to do something other than arts and crafts. 4-H is definitely a good idea. If you're in a good county they'll have all sorts of stuff from farm related to to sewing to bottle rockets. :)

We've joked that if and when the time comes, we'll start our own troop and call them the Anarcho Scouts. Black neckerchiefs instead of red, and all that.

And then we started joking around about how Anarcho Scouts would earn their merit badges, and well, that went in a direction that could get me in trouble. ;)

  • Yay for Scouts!  Life was so much more awesome when changed from Girl Guides to Scouts (mind you, I was a lot older).  I hope he has an awesome time!

  • Aww.:) I know you put a lot of thought into this. Even with your concerns, this definitely shows him that you can acknowledge another point of view without adopting it.
I think this will be a great way for him to make friends!

  • Well, he looks awful cute and happy in his uniform and neckerchief, and I know he'll enjoy working on the Pinewood Derby car.

I had to make one in when I was in training to work for them; realized there was no way I should use a pocketknife, so I just used markers to make it like the Partridge Family bus.

I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew
