Betcha Didn't Know...

that cashews come from a fruit:

I I had no idea until someone told me about a month ago.

Anyone else have random knowledge that you can share?

Re: Betcha Didn't Know...

  • I used this one time before, but when tinfoil hits the fillings (metal) in your mouth it makes a tiny battery.

  • I love cashews too!  Evidently the fruit is pretty good and popular in Brazil.  I'd love to try it if I ever make it down there.

Cant raw cashews be poisonous too? something like that...
  • That's crazy. It's like the cashew is the turd of that thing.

  • That's so weird...

Did you know that squirrels can steal tomatoes? I have been growing this huge tomato (my first one EVER) and watching it every day and as I was watching the other day a squirrel ran up, plucked it, and ran away with it. Wtf squirrle?
  • That explains the half eaten tomato in my backyard last summer.

The scratch marks on the sides of dolphins, especially near their faces, are from other dolphins' teeth. It is how they greet each other, not from fighting.

Oh, and that back tail fin? Can knock you off your feet, and leave one hell of a bruise.

  • I just found that out 2 days ago while looking at someones pictures from their honeymoon in Belize! They encasing to the nut is poisonous as well.
  • NEbb yes - its the shell. To sell them raw, they heat process them to get rid of the toxin. I also  just read that the poison is the same family as poison oak (urushiol). You can get contact dermatits from touching an unshelled cashew.

The fruit can be used, too, but only for a couple of days.

  • Irish springs (the soap) shavings keep animals away from your flowers/vegetable plants/etc.

My mom had a problem with a ground hog eating her tomato plants one year.  Someone told her about the Irish Springs trick, and it worked.

  • Did anyone know that a tomato is in fact a fruit not a vegetable.  Scientifically it's a fruit, in the cooking world it's a vegetable, and according to the supreme court in the late 1800's and early 1900's it's also a vegetable, but only because the government could then charge tax on it.  I only know this because FI and I were arguing about it last week lol.
  • Goats shouldn't eat tomatoes. They can't break down something in the tomato so it makes them act drunk. I know this from experience, but it was an accident.

  • speaking of tomatoes, did you know that the plants can develop a virus called tobacco mosaic virus if someone smokes near them?
