So This Just Sucks...

So, we took our six year old Siamese to the vet today because he has been sick.

Looks like he has cystic kidney disease, and maybe we can get him a little good time with us. Maybe. Small, very small chance it is just infection but at this point that is maybe an 8% chance. We will know more Tuesday. H had this cat before we met, I have lived with this cat three years. 

We just lost a cat in August. We also lost my mom's cat the a few days before our wedding. I feel like the breaks we caught this year in animal health were when our dog's blood in stool deal turned out NOT to be cancer (after extensive tests) and that we were able to save the sight in my mom's cats injured eye (she does not go outside, happened playing with the other cat).

I feel like never have so many well loved, well cared for animals had so many issues.

I'm sorry. My mom's 2 cats both had  had kidney disease, and she was able to keep them going for a while.

Oh God, Lenore, I hope everything works out!  Poor kitty.  It's so hard because they become part of the family.

Thanks everyone. I just have to get past my self pity at all this animal illness and loss and concentrate on doing right by our little cat guy.

Thanks Kim and Jasmine. He is sleeping peacefully with his brother in H's lap as we speak-have to concentrate on the positive  in the here and now.

aww I am sorry!  Don't give up yet.  Kidney disease is common in kitties and while its not treatable it is definitely manageable.  You can possible give your kitty many more years of a normal life.

I hope its just an infection but don't lose hope either way.

I'm so sorry to hear about your cat.  Mine just got out of the emergency room where he was having his kidneys flushed after an incident with an easter lily leaf.

I'll be thinking about your kitty and hoping that everything will be ok.

Oh, Lenore.  I'm so sorry.  I love my kittys so much, I will be devastated when Cheddie and Muenster go.  And, of course my puppy, too.  They're my babies.

I'm so sorry. My cat ended up with liver failure in May. It was really hard, and we were 95% sure we were going to lose him, but after a lot of money and a feeding tube, he's doing really well now. Good luck!

He ate a little this morning and seems alert, responding to the sub q fluids it looks like. Thanks again all.
