For y'all who have stand mixers... Recipe ideas?

A friend of my mom's called me the other day to get lunch with her and stopped by to drop off "a small wedding gift" beforehand. It was a freaking Kitchenaid stand mixer and a space heater (I'm sure a few people remember my whining about my apartment's lack of heat. Apparently my mom told her). I was flabbergasted and clearly fell over myself thanking her.

So, now that I'm all warm and cozy and have a mixer, what should I make with it? I have some cookie recipes I've been meaning to try, but I know the possibilities are endless. Thoughts?

Whipped cream.. and whatever. Whipped cream is a good recipe by itself ;)

I know Anna has tons of recipes.

So far, all I've made with mine is banana bread. I know, lame. But in my defense, #1- our oven wasn't hooked up until about 3 months ago, and #2-it's really good bread. I've done banana bread plain, with walnuts, with chocolate chips and with dried cranberries.

EVERYTHING. I've used it to mash potatoes, and they were so fluffy :)

My all time favorite recipe, though, is super simple. Box of spice cake mix, 1 egg, and a can of pumpkin. Bake in mini muffin tin for about 20 min on 350*

I can't remember... are you vegan? or vegetarian? I have more recipes to share too :)

    Cheesecake!

Little tip - always add the eggs last and mix gently to help avoid cracks during baking.

I am so excited to get this. If no one buys it I will buy it for myself! I'll take note of these recipes.

I'm also really excited to get a milk frother. I will probably get more use out of that than the stand mixer, tbh. I love hot chocolate.

Koda, my MOH made us tres leches cake the other day, and I almost died. Ok, that's complete hyperbole, but it's my new favorite cake ever.

Steph, just vegetarian, so I love me some eggs and milk :)

Great call on using it to whip egg whites! DH doesn't cook much, but he's the king of bunch food, and he's been whipping egg whites by hand with a fork to make waffles. He'll be so pumped.

It's so cute! I can't wait to get some peppercorns to fill it. I forgot to tell Charlie it was coming, too, so he was all surprised and excited. :)

Good. :) I don't know how people survive without butter.

Basically, anything you can bake, do it with the mixer. It makes everything so much easier. I usually just start it going, and let it run while I measure other stuff. It makes recipes WAY quicker.

    Cake balls!

Or just save up for some of the awesome attachments :)

[QUOTE]Poli- mmmhmmmm tres leches! It is amazing, and it took me making that cake for the first time to realize it. I brought it to work for a company BBQ thing last week. It was the first dessert to fully disappear. It made the whipping up egg whites by hand entirely worth it. Oh and Sarah- I just added your cake suggestion to my recipe box so I won't forget it. I like vodka and I like cake, I think I need to try that recipe.

It is unbelievable. It makes your house smell absolutely intoxicating, and the texture is so moist - almost like mousse. And because of all the alcohol, it stays fresh for days.

We're considering baking a bunch of them a week of the wedding and just serving them to everybody as our wedding cake. The cake also has something of a history because it was the first birthday cake I ever made for Charlie, and at the time I was living in DE and he was in WI, and I made the cake at home and flew out to see him with it. Now it's the only cake he ever wants. :)

I'm so excited to try all these recipes! I really haven't been much of a baker, especially since DH and I have both been dieting, but now that we're close to our goals I think we can splurge a little (ok a lot, hehe).

A friend of mine took a sourdough starter making class in the Mission. It was too expensive for me, so I wonder if I can make it happen with the mixer. Hmm..

Awesome, koda! My friend has a blog about her starter (named "Rolando"), but since she received hers from the class, I wasn't sure where to begin.

I know that I could just go around the corner and buy a loaf of SF sourdough, but I like the idea of having a little pet starter :)

Koda, have you ever been around Fisherman's Wharf? There's a sourdough place that pumps the air from the baking bread out onto the street. It's like an olfatory siren song of deliciousness.

[QUOTE] I can't find the exact instructions I used but it was similar to the ones on this website. http://www.wildyeastblog.com/2007/07/13/raising-a-starter/ .

pretty much the same as my starter.

YAY Poli! Stand mixers are awesome! I use mine for everything but especially kneading breads and smoothly mixing batters. Best use ever: make your own whipped cream. I make it and just use it over fruit

Sourdough sounds amazing! I've made pizza crust, cookies, everything! I also like to use it to make my mashed potatoes...it leaves them a little chunky if you let it, which i like sometimes. Enjoy!!

As as note, if you are going to leave it on the counter I recommend getting (or making) a cover for it.

Koda, I wonder if they'd make me a sourdough guinea pig. I probably wouldn't be able to actually eat it, though, so perhaps I should refrain.

I hadn't even thought about a cover! Good call.

What a great gift! What color is it? (did I miss that?)

I use my stand mixer for everything from mixing cake mixes, mashing potatoes, kneading bread dough, etc. I love it!

One of my favorite recipes to use it for are cinnamon buns, pretzels and bagels, since I loathe kneading bread dough (it hurts my wrists). Here are a few recipes, if you're not afraid to work with yeast doughs (keep in mind, I was married to my exH when I posted these on my food blog):
