Speaking of TYs, Most Awesome Wedding Gift You Received?

The other day I got a mailing tube delivered to me, and it was a wedding gift from our friends. It was a Cure poster from the tour during which DH proposed. It's limited, and signed. It's seriously the coolest thing we own. I cried when I saw it, and when I wrote the TY note today. It's *that* awesome.

Now you go.

  • Awwww! That is awesome!

A good friend of the family is a crazy talented stone sculptor and gave us a sculpture with our names and wedding date engraved. It is amazing.

  • Wow! I mean, I was pretty excited when we got our bedsheets, but it's no autographed Cure poster that's significant to our relationship...

H's grandmother took our wedding invitation and framed it.  It has pressed flowers from my shower corsage all around it.  SO sweet!

A close second is a hand shaped, decorative wooden plate with the tree of life and our last name etched on it
  • other than cash? I really liked getting our duvet cover and sheets, I love our new plates and a friend bought off registry and got us this hand sculpted ceramic casserole dish, it's blue and lovely and looks like art.
  • A family friend made a really cool thing out of our invite and std. It looks like an open book. Its reaaly neat. I also love my kitchen aid mixer but hate the bitch that gave it to me.

I'm not married yet but I already know what my best gift will be. Having a family of in-laws that are well-adjusted, responsible adults instead of the broken, irresponsible and extremely selfish family I have now.

ETA: I just realized what a bummer my post was but it's true and it will be a nice change of pace so I look forward to it.

BTW, Bec- the poster gift is really thoughtful. Those gifts are the best. They always have a really special meaning and it's nice when people find something that relates to the two of you so well.

  • Is it signed by Robert Smith, meaning he TOUCHED it?? That thing probably cures cancer, you know. That's why they call it The Cure.

I sure hope Santa Claus gets me a Gino Vannelli cd from his website. He signs all of those too. Not Robert Smith, Gino.

  • I think my aunt took that prize for both shower and wedding gifts.  For the shower she got us these wine glasses with stones around the stems:

For the wedding in addition to a check, she got us a whole box of blown glass christmas tree ornaments.  There was a campfire, a pinecone, a pine tree, a tent... a whole bunch that are totally suited to the outdoor hiking/camping/backpacking stuff that are right up our alley and the things we need to do.  I LOVE Christmas.  I currently put up 3 full size trees every year (and several miniature ones too), but I have a ways to go to catch up to her.  She does 7 or 8 full trees every year.
  • My grandmother gave me an afghan my great grandmother crocheted for us for our wedding present. Great grandma passed away 4 months before the wedding.
  • I haven't had to see my MIL since our wedding day. Best. Gift. Ever.

Sorry, Zip. I should have clarified. It's signed by the graphic artist/designer. It's screen printed by hand, and only 200 were made total for the tour. My friends are poster collectors, and were so upset they couldn't get one with our actual show on it. They're insane, clearly. It's so awesome and so perfect!

J scored a DVD of the show we were at when he tried to propose (before I flubbed that up for him!), which is pretty awesome.
  • These gifts are awesome, and the blanket just made me cry, katie.

Blue, who gave you the mixer?

I haven't heard that story. How did you flub it?
  • Most awesome wedding gift we got was a 100% cashmere cable-knit blanket from Bergdorf Goodman....from friends of my IL's that neither Rich nor I had ever met. It just showed up at our door, in a fancy box, with a fancy bow, and fancy purple tissue paper. That blanket will never get used...EVER. And I love it!

Ha! I'm an idiot and I completely missed what he was trying to do. It's in my bio, under "Our Story". It still makes me cringe.
  • Bec, that's awesome.  I would've been crying over that too.

Rach, I know somewhere you can send that lovely sounding blanket.

For me, my BM shooting the wedding.  It's just so beyond anything I could've ever imagined and makes me so happy.

Also, DH's best man shooting and editing our rehearsal dinner 'newlywed-style' video.  It's good to have talented friends.

  • Uh, well, my in-laws gave us a generous amount of money. Very generous.

Other than that, the one I was most touched about was the duvet set our GM gave us. He makes barely above minimum wage and he bought us something that was over $100 off our registry. I was floored.

  • It is weird, I kind of wondered if you had left us :(
  • We got a lot of homemade stuff, which is better than anything that could be purchased.... among those homemade things:

    *wood, carved homemade recipe box
    *stoneware plate
    *embroidered thing with our name/date
    *quilt

that felt very twilight esque ;)
  • WHAT is going on?! B and Rach at night? score!
  • It's a toss up

    1) H's grandmother gave us a cameo. I've wanted one since I was 12 and he asked her (as a antique shop shopper) to look for one, and she gave us one of hers. And then we got a nice check.

    2) The groomsmen got together and got us an x-box reach. But that was mainly so that H could play halo again. And so they could teabag him.

  • My grandparents gave us a kitchen-aid and I love it. They gave their each of their five kids one when they got married, so it's a nice tradition. I was the first of the grandchildren to get married so I didn't know if they were going to continue it, but I was touched when they did. I lived with them for quite some time, so we are pretty close.
