Sugar cookies?

I'm going to make Christmas cookies this weekend.  What's the trick to making them soft and chewy (like the grocery store frosted ones) without risking raw dough in the centers?

Re: Sugar cookies?

  • Real butter or Crisco (whatever the recipe calls for).  Cold ingredients warmed to room temp.

Everything the light touches is my kingdom.
  • Keep 'em covered!  In a tupperware or under saran wrap or in a zip-lock bag.

    That's all I got.

  • You have to make them with love. Duh  :P

  • melt the butter before adding it to the other ingredients, room temp eggs, and just roll them a bit thicker.

Remove them the minute you notice the edges are browning.
I leave them on the pan for 5 minutes after baking.  I think it makes a difference as it allows the underside to continue to bake slightly

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

    amen
  • I agree with Anna's method, another tip...after you've baked them and put them in a container to store, put a slice or two of bread in the container. The cookies will absorb the moisture from the bread and keep them fresh longer.

  • Has any one ever seen sweet cream butter in the store?  I don't think I've ever seen it.

You see it down here in the South all the time...I don't know where you could find it where you're at.
