Are frogs harmful to dogs?

My shi tzu started throwing up last night and couldn't walk straight. I was going to take her to the vet but this morning she was herself again. I was telling my coworkers about it and they started talking about how frogs are bad for dogs. I do have frogs in my backyard because there is a creek next to my house. Have any of you heard of that?

I'd give it a little more time.  Your dog may have just caught a bug.  If she was acting fine this morning, chances are that's what it was and nothing else.  Keep your eye on her and take it from there.

Possibly, I know when I lived in Florida everyone said that a certain variety of geckos was was toxic to dogs, so it would seem like frogs might be too.

I've never had dogs but I looked it up on Yahoo and it said that frogs are bad for dogs (I would imagine cats too) due to some are poisonous.  Hopefully, you're little guy gets better soon!

I did a lot of research on this last year because my dog loves to grab frogs by his mouth, but he wouldn't eat them. If I am remembering correctly it is the "Bull Frog" that is harmful to dogs and that type of frog is not indigenous to Texas. Bull Frogs are very large frogs and our around here don't get that big. I think they are common in Florida. Hope that helps!

Your best bet when things like this happen is to call your vet. They don't mind answering questions or giving advice over the phone. Emergency vets are always available after hours for consulting.
