Snarky Brides

What are you afraid of?

I'm afraid of someone breaking into my house while I'm home alone...and even if I come home and lock all the doors-they are already there!!  Someone just robbed the Subway and Pizza shop near my house and now my paranoia is in high gear.

Re: What are you afraid of?

  • Telephones. They are my weird phobia. If I have to use one I start to hyperventilate and get sweaty palms. Dh makes most of my phone calls for me.

    Also tornados
  • falling...I even have problems with step ladders and when I climbed a mountain in St.Lucia one year going back down was way worse on my than going up...

Also, I have irrational fears about people close to me being critically injured or dying. On good days it doesn't happen, but somedays I can get side tracked thinking about all the bad things that could happen. I hate it.
  • I'm afraid of so much:

    fish
    frogs
    slugs
    stray hair
    the bathroom
    toilet paper
    public farting
    home invasions
    ghosts
    anything bad happening to Ben
    my basement
    old people
my next door monster and her weird dad
  • I am terrified of tornados...any warning that comes across the screen i rush to collect my things!

  • Flying. I'm not totally phobic, I will get on a plane, I just am scared during takeoff, turbulence and landing. I usually cry at some point. Poor FI.

Spiders and snakes. I get that panicky feeling about them and it's like the primitive part of my brain takes over. Again, not phobic, but I REALLY don't like them and usually run away when I see one.

You too?? Normally people tell me to grow up but it's something I can't get over. I had to give myself a 20 minute pep talk just to call my credit card company to change my name after the wedding. Once I got so panicky calling to make a doctor's appointment I had to hang up before I puked :( Thank god for online delivery and text!

Absolutely.  I was fine with them until I started working as a telemarketer, but by the time I quit that job I was using my inhaler before every call so I didn't have an asthma attack while on the phone.  It's really bad :(

My worst nightmare now is being in purchasing a my work (part of my new job there) because I have to make phone calls all day, and being asked to help out our tech support crew when they get busy.  I told the head of tech support I'd handle emails but  I could. not. do. phones.

God, what ARENT I afraid of?

Spiders crawling in my mouth at night, bedbugs, the house being broken into at night, the house being broken into when were gone and the dog being stolen, my dog getting loose and not being able to find him, my dog dying, high speed car accidents, fires, going bald, losing my mom, failing, smelling bad and not knowing it, accidentally eating something rotton.

  • Calling tech support was the worst. I try to remind myself of how dumb you feel not knowing what you are talking about (I'm "the trouble shoot help" now). At PetSmart we had to call tech support and it's like "Hi, so...it's not working" "What isn't" "Well, the program, it froze" "Ok is aljkgjhag plugged in?" "Um...maybe?"

I'm so glad I rarely use the phone at work. We do pretty much everything through email. I also text my boss instead of calling, but he likes it better because it's not as invasive on his "at home" time.

I'm also scared of someone hiding under my car. I always stand about a foot away, open the door and jump in. I guess I think they will grab my feet?

  • Flying. To the point where I know my one really good friend is getting married in Vegas in a few years, and I'm already having panic attacks about getting on the plane.

The house being broken into at night. Whenever DH goes out of town on business, and I'm home alone overnight, I actually move our couch in front of the front door every night, and barricade the back slider with boxes and chairs.

I have some weird paranoias, all stemming from my fear of people breaking in and killing me. This past winter I could hear this weird sawing noise coming from the roof and rather than go outside to look and see what it was, I got it in my head it must be a man on the roof sawing a hole into the attic so he could break in at night without busting in through the doors because he knows we have an alarm system. That night, I stayed up until 4 am after erecting a booby trap (a pile of things tilted so they would fall over and make a lot of noise if disturbed) against the door to the attic and laid in bed in the dark listening to every noise to see if it was the dude. I figured, he would wait until he saw the lights go off, so I decided to trick him by staying awake in the dark.

There was no man on the roof. It was a sqirrel.

Oh yeah, and im apparently crazy. EVERY NIGHT I have to double (sometimes triple) check with my husband that he turned the alarm on. Even if I turned it on myself, I second guess it and still double check with him.

  • I love you, Nebb.  Also, I'll have you know I've done the same thing before.  My parents live in the middle of nowhere and they were out of town and I had the house to myself.  I slept with a shotgun next to my head, just in case.

Nebb, you seriously sound like me with the breaking in thing. Do you know where yours stems from? I'm pretty sure mine comes back to my mom being an absolute crazy person that since I was a small child (Like 4/5 years old) telling me about all the bad people in the world who break into houses and do horrible things to kids. I think she was just trying to raise me to be "aware"  ... instead, I'm just a nutcase about locking doors and being by myself in the dark.

Oh, I also am terrified when I'm out shopping alone of somebody trying to abduct me while in the parking lot. I can thank Mom for that one, too.
